Alternative School Educator (Middle & High School)

Duties

Other essential duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

  2. Use the reclaiming youth model of strength-based goal setting to enrich, encourage, and inspire.
  3. Exhibit collaborative and collegial strength-based practice focused on improving instructional practice, student learning, and creating restorative climates.
  4. Demonstrate a passion for serving at-risk and underserved youth.
  5. Center instruction on high expectations for student achievement.
  6. Demonstrate effective teaching practices.
  7. Recognize individual student learning needs and develop strategies to address those needs.
  8. Use multiple student data points to modify instruction and improve student learning.
  9. Provide clear and intentional focus on subject matter content and culturally responsive curriculum.
  10. Foster and manage a safe, positive, strength-based learning environment.
  11. Communicate and collaborate in a strength-based manner with colleagues, parents and the school community.
  12. Provide instruction of social and emotional skills.

Qualifications

Assumes professional responsibility for providing learning experiences in comprehensive education in a supportive and positive climate that develops each student’s skills, attitudes, and knowledge to meet and exceed the State Core Curriculum Content Standards.   To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Salary/Benefits

Ten-month year. Starting Salary: $55,000.00

Additional Notes

Job Goal: Delivering instruction in an environment favorable to learning and personal growth of students enrolled in an alternative education setting; establishing effective rapport with students; motivating students to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for becoming a healthy, happy, responsible citizen.

Education Requirements: Bachelor’s degree – Valid Illinois Professional Educator’s License in appropriate field. Preferably Math/Science endorsements
