CNA Instructor

Duties

  • Provide classroom (theory) and clinical instruction for CNA students.
  • Deliver curriculum that builds knowledge and hands-on clinical skills required for CNA certification.
  • Coordinate and supervise student clinical experiences at approved healthcare facilities.
  • Collaborate with healthcare partners to secure clinical placements.
  • Support student success and maintain compliance with Illinois Department of Public Health BNATP regulations.
  • Participate in program orientation and program coordinator meetings related to BNATP rules and regulations.

Qualifications

  • Registered Professional Nurse (RN) with an active, unencumbered Illinois license.
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience as a Registered Nurse.
  • At least one (1) year of experience in one of the following areas:
    • Teaching theory in an accredited nurse training program or nursing assistant training program;
    • Providing nursing care to older adults or chronically ill adults, including personal care and activities of daily living; or
    • Working in long-term care facility services or direct patient care.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations.
  • Ability to coordinate with healthcare facilities to arrange clinical placements.

Additional Notes

Candidates must meet Illinois Department of Public Health requirements for BNATP instructors, including:

  • Completion of a Department-approved evaluator course prior to approval unless the applicant holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or higher.
  • Completion of a Department-approved Train the Trainer program unless the applicant holds a BSN or higher.
  • If the RN has not taught in a nursing program or BNATP within the past two years, the Train the Trainer course (including Alzheimer's and dementia training) will be required.
  • Completion of approved training related to Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (minimum of four hours or four CEU credits).
  • For dual credit partnership with Rend Lake College, candidates may be required to hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
