Duties

SUMMARY

The Science Lead Teacher supports the effective operation of the science department by assisting with instructional implementation, professional collaboration, and organizational management. This position bridges classroom teaching and departmental coordination, ensuring alignment of curriculum, instruction, and systems to promote student success in the sciences. The Science Lead Teacher is a certified educator who maintains a partial teaching load and fulfills key managerial and operational responsibilities under the direction of the Principal and/or designee

PERFORMANCE EVALUATION

Performance will be evaluated annually by the Principal and/or designee in accordance with District 207’s certified staff evaluation procedures.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with appropriate content-area endorsement(s) in the area of science.
  • Demonstrated expertise in inquiry-based, discussion-centered, and literacy-rich instructional practices.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to use technology systems such as the Student Information System (SIS), Google Workspace, and discipline-specific instructional tools.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

It is expected that the candidate will present a record of successful experiences that indicate outstanding instructional leadership, collaboration, and performance in the following areas:

Including but not limited to:

Professional Learning Communities (PLCs):

  • Supports and facilitates the PLC process within the science department to promote collaboration, data-driven decision-making, and the implementation of best instructional practices in science.

High-Impact Instruction:

  • Supports the implementation of high-impact instructional strategies in science, including inquiry-based learning, analysis of primary and secondary sources

Meetings and Collaboration:

  • Assists in organizing and facilitating department meetings to ensure effective communication, curricular alignment, and follow-through on science initiatives.

Master Scheduling:

  • Collaborates with the Principal and/or designee in developing the master schedule, ensuring equitable and efficient allocation of staff, resources, and course offerings.

Articulation with Partner Districts:

  • Works with the Principal and/or designee including but not limited to the Director of Curriculum and Instruction, Assistant Director of Curriculum & Instruction, and Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum & Instruction to support articulation with feeder districts on science curriculum, skills, and assessments.

Teaching and Supervision:

  • Teaches a minimum of one (1) class and a maximum of four (4) science classes, or their equivalent, along with one supervisory assignment, as determined by the needs of the department.

Budget and Resource Management:

  • Assists in developing and managing the science department budget; supports acquisition, maintenance, and inventory of instructional materials, resources, and supplies.

Student Information System (SIS):

  • Provides support for data management and reporting functions related to the Student Information System within the science department.

Substitute Teacher Support:

  • Coordinates with substitute teachers within the department to ensure continuity of instruction and access to science materials.

Managerial Support:

  • Assists the Principal and/or designee with other operational and managerial tasks necessary for the effective functioning of the department.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as determined by the Administration and/or Board of Education.

WORKING CONDITIONS/ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Including but not limited to:

  • Work Environment: The employee is required to work in both school and office settings and must be able to operate effectively in environments that include moderate noise levels, frequent interruptions, and interactions with students, staff, and community members. Work may involve extended periods of sitting, standing, walking, and using technology or office equipment. The employee must be able to travel between school sites and district offices as needed.
  • Physical Requirements: The position requires the ability to lift and carry materials weighing up to 25 pounds, move freely throughout school facilities, and participate in meetings and presentations that require mobility and clear communication. The employee must possess visual and auditory acuity sufficient to perform job-related functions, including reading documents, viewing screens, and participating in in-person and virtual meetings.
  • Flexibility & Availability: This position requires flexibility, as responsibilities may occasionally occur outside the regular school day, such as attendance at evening meetings, curriculum work sessions, and professional development.
  • Professional Commitment: The employee is expected to maintain consistent attendance, punctuality, and professional demeanor. Responsiveness to communication, timely completion of assigned tasks, and adherence to district policies and timelines are essential to the successful performance of this position

Salary/Benefits

SALARY AND BENEFITS 

  • 10-month position
  • 189 Total Paid Work Days
    • Base Contract: 185 days
    • Lead Teacher: 4 days.  If the Superintendent or designee requires that a lead teacher work more than 189 days, the lead teacher will be paid for each additional day at the per diem rate.
  • Start Date: August 4, 2026
  • End Date: May 26, 2027
  • The Lead teacher will be assigned to (1) class and (1) supervisory assignment.
  • Salary and benefits as determined by the collective bargaining agreement teacher salary schedule and a lead teacher stipend.  The Lead Teacher Compensation includes compensation for four (4) additional required days and is determined as follows:

 

Years Assigned as Lead Teacher 10% of Column VII

       1 Step 1

       4 Step 11

      7 years or more Step 17
