Assistant Principal

     

REPORTS TO:

 

The Principal

SUPERVISES:

 

Staff members designated by the Principals or Superintendent.

I.CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTIONAL LEADERSHIP

 
  1. Serve as principal in the absence of the regular principal.
  2. Assist the principal in the overall administration of the school.
  3. Assists in the development, revisions, and evaluation of the curriculum.
  4. Maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline as necessary, to provide a proper learning environment.
  5. Works with the principal to establish a building schedule and calendar that provides maximum learning time.
  6. Assumes responsibility for the implementation and observance of all Board policies and regulations by the school’s staff and students.
  7. Keeps the principal informed of the school’s activities and problems.
  8. Make recommendations concerning the school’s administration and instruction.
  9. Assists in the management and preparation of the school district budget.
  10. Shares in the orientation of newly assigned staff members.
  11. Establishes and maintains an effective learning climate in the school.
  12. Participates in principal meetings, school board meetings, and such other meetings as are required or appropriate.

II.SCHOOL MANAGEMENT







 
  1. As assigned, prepares or supervises the preparation of reports, records, lists, and all other paperwork required, within the given time lines.
  1. Participates in district meetings and such other meetings as are required or appropriate.
  1. Resolves all discipline problems in a fair and just manner, and maintains records of disciplinary action taken.
  1. Participates in the coordination, implementation, and supervision of cocurricular activities.
  1. Assists in developing and administering practices dealing with school control and security.
  1. Assists with school supervision and assume responsibility of supervising Summer School.
  1. Confers with parents, teachers, counselors, support service personnel, and students on matters of discipline and welfare.
  1. Confers with and makes appropriate referrals to social workers and other personnel.
  1. Shares in supervisory responsibility for student activities, athletic events, programs of student orientation, and similar activities. The final schedule will be designed by the building principal.
  1. Assists in assigning faculty to supervision of cocurricular activities.
  1. Plans and coordinates school functions, and works with coordinating the eligibility verification program of the district.
  1. Maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline as necessary, according due process to the rights of students.
  1. Establishes guides for proper student conduct and maintaining student discipline.
  1. Works with students in a group setting in the solution of problems that are having an impact on a significant number of students.
  1. Attends special events held to recognize student achievement, and attends school-sponsored activities, functions, and athletic events as designated by the principal.
  1. Oversees all matters of student attendance. 
  2. Supervises the maintenance of accurate records on the progress and attendance of students.
  1. Assumes responsibility for attendance and conduct of students.
  1. Assumes responsibility for his/her own professional growth and development through membership and participation in the affairs of professional organizations, through attendance at regional and state meetings, through enrollment in advanced courses, and the like.
  1. Keeps abreast of changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings, reading professional journals and other publications, and discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the field.

  1. Contributes to the development of a district newsletter.

  1. Plans and supervises fire drills and an emergency preparedness program with the principal.
  1. Conducts and chairs meetings of the Drug Free Committee.
  1. Coordinates orientation and registration of exiting eighth grade students with Washington Community High School.
  1. Assumes responsibility for academic scheduling of all seventh and eighth grade students.
  1. Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or superintendent associated with the management of the building.

III.PERSONNEL EVALUATION

 
  1. Within District guidelines, participates in the selection, assignment, and supervision of appropriate building personnel.
  1. As assigned, implements the District’s evaluation program for all certified and classified staff and designated personnel.
  1. Assumes risk care management duties (1) to ensure that statutory and common law health and safety rights are extended to all visitors, employees, and students, (2) to make certain that the district’s buildings and grounds are maintained in a safe condition, and (3) to provide careful supervision and protection of all the district’s real and personal property.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

 

Twelve (12) months with employee sick leave and vacation days allotted.

EVALUATION:

 

Performance in this position will be evaluated annually by the Principal in accordance with the Board’s Policy on administrative evaluation.

     

Qualifications

 
  1. Minimum of a Masters Degree.
  1. Illinois State Board Certificate Type 75 or equivalent.
  1. Enroll in the basic required strand of Illinois Adm. Academy.
  1. Other qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate.

Salary/Benefits

Salary range of $70,000-$80,000 with health, vision, and dental benefits.

This position is for the assistant principal of a 4th-8th grade building with 15 general education teachers, 6 special education teachers, a counselor, nurse, and 5 specials teachers.
