Position Summary:
Christopher Grade School is seeking a highly qualified and enthusiastic full-time Junior High Math Instructor to join our dedicated team for the 2026-2027 school year. The ideal candidate will be passionate about mathematics education, possess a deep understanding of math concepts, and be skilled in creating engaging and effective learning experiences for diverse student populations. This position requires a valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with appropriate endorsements in mathematics.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Instruction and Curriculum:
- Develop and deliver engaging, standards-aligned mathematics instruction to secondary students (grades 7-8 or as assigned) in courses such as Algebra 1/2 & Algebra 1.
- Plan, prepare, and implement daily lessons that cater to various learning styles and abilities, utilizing a variety of instructional techniques and technology.
- Align instruction with Illinois Learning Standards for Mathematics and school district curriculum guidelines.
- Integrate real-world applications and problem-solving strategies into lessons to enhance student understanding and engagement.
- Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs, including those with IEPs/504 plans and English Language Learners.
Assessment and Evaluation:
- Design and administer a variety of formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and evaluate learning outcomes.
- Provide timely, constructive feedback to students and parents/guardians regarding academic performance.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student grades, attendance, and progress.
Classroom Management and Environment:
- Establish and maintain a positive, safe, and respectful classroom environment conducive to learning.
- Implement effective classroom management strategies that promote student responsibility, self-discipline, and collaboration.
- Supervise students in various school settings (e.g., classroom, hallways, extracurricular activities).
Collaboration and Communication:
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues, administration, support staff, and parents/guardians to support student success.
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress, behavior, and academic needs.
- Participate in department, school, and district-level meetings, professional development, and committees as required.
Professional Growth:
- Continuously seek opportunities for professional growth and stay current with best practices in mathematics education and educational technology.
- Engage in reflective practice to improve instructional effectiveness.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
Licensure: Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with an endorsement in Mathematics (Grades 6-12 Mathematics, or specific content area endorsements as required by ISBE).
Experience:
- Student teaching experience in mathematics setting preferred.
- Previous experience teaching secondary mathematics preferred.
Skills and Abilities:
- Demonstrated expertise in secondary mathematics content (Algebra, JH Math).
- Strong pedagogical skills with the ability to differentiate instruction and engage all learners.
- Excellent classroom management and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in integrating educational technology into mathematics instruction (e.g., graphing calculators, online learning platforms, interactive whiteboards).
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.
