Assistant Superintendent of Student Services

The Assistant Superintendent of Student Services provides strategic direction, oversight, and continuous improvement of the district's comprehensive student support systems. The position is responsible for ensuring that all students, particularly those requiring specialized support, receive equitable access to high-quality educational services that promote academic success, well-being, and post-secondary readiness.
Position Purpose:
The Assistant Superintendent of Student Service leads the design, implementation, and evaluation of districtwide systems that support students academically, socially, emotionally, and behaviorally. The Assistant Superintendent oversees special education services, student wellness programs, multi-tiered systems of support, and related student service functions to ensure alignment with district priorities and compliance with all federal and state regulations.
Serving a high school district of approximately 12,300 students, the Assistant Superintendent collaborates with district leaders, school administrators, educators, families, and community agencies to ensure student services are responsive, legally compliant, fiscally responsible, and aligned with the district's mission and strategic plan.
Essential Functions:
1. Provide visionary leadership for all student services programs aligned with district strategic priorities.
2. Develop and implement systems that promote equitable access to high-quality student supports across all schools.
3. Lead continuous improvement efforts through data analysis, program evaluation, and evidence-based practices.
4. Recruit, supervise, support, and evaluate directors, coordinators, and other student services personnel.
5. Develop leadership capacity among staff responsible for student support services.
6. Provide professional learning opportunities focused on inclusive practices and student support strategies.
7. Oversee districtwide initiatives related to student mental health, social-emotional learning, behavioral supports, and wellness services.
8. Lead implementation and refinement of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) across the district.
9. Collaborate with building administrators to ensure effective intervention systems and student support structures.
10. Foster productive partnerships with families, community organizations, and service agencies.
11. Represent the district in regional, state, and professional organizations related to student services.
12. Promote clear communication regarding student services programs and initiatives.
13. Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent and/or designee.
Qualifications
1. Degree in Educational Leadership, Educational Administration (Doctorate preferred)
2. Leadership experience in counseling, special education administration and/or student services (preferred)
3. Valid Illinois Professional Educator License with Administrative Endorsement
4. Minimum of five years of successful administrative leadership experience at the building and/or district level
5. Demonstrated success supervising professional staff and managing complex educational programs
6. Extensive knowledge of federal and state laws governing student services including IDEA, Section 504, ADA, and related regulation
7. Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
8. Demonstrated experience implementing Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and inclusive education practices
9. Experience managing budgets and coordinating cross-departmental initiatives
10. Experience leading initiatives related to social-emotional learning, student mental health, and behavioral supports
