Assistant Principal - Elementary Building

Duties

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful candidate will:

  • Demonstrate the ability to collaborate successfully with students, staff, and parents
  • Possess excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Work productively in a team environment
  • Display an aptitude for problem solving and facilitating the work of others
  • Maintain confidentiality of records and information

 

INSTRUCTIONAL LEADERSHIP ROLE:

  • Coach and model best instructional practices for all staff members
  • Active participant in team/department/staff meetings regarding the development of curriculum
  • Work in conjunction with other administrators to develop and lead professional development for staff 
  • Evaluate certified and classified staff annually
  • Complete walkthroughs of classrooms and provide appropriate feedback and support to staff
  • Lead 504 meetings to make sure they follow district policy, school law, federal guidelines, while making decisions in the best interest of students
  • Participate in special education meetings to make appropriate academic and behavior plans for students (may be asked to facilitate meetings)




BEHAVIORAL INTERVENTION & SUPPORT:

  • Collaborate with staff to track behavioral referrals, evaluate instructional/behavioral programs, monitor student progress, and implement behavioral interventions
  • Use restorative practices to promote positive relationships and facilitate conflict resolution
  • Co-lead staff and student education around social-emotional learning
  • Share all aspects of student discipline, intervention, and safety with the building principal and/or assistant principal
  • Collaborate with special education staff to understand the function of student behavior as it relates to a child’s disability
  • Support staff with the implementation of Board policies and legal requirements

 

SUPERVISION:

  • Support lunchroom and before/after-school activities by supervising and assisting at events

 

COMMUNICATION

  • Promote interaction between or among staff, students and community and expresses a clear vision for the school that is compatible with District goals
  • Foster excellent communication among parents, teachers and students concerning student progress and student discipline
  • Stay current and informed on District directives related to policy, proactive student discipline practices, curriculum, instruction and staff development

Qualifications

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:  

  • Type 75 and or administrative license certificate 
  • Passed Teacher Evaluator Modules
  • Five years teaching or related educational experience (i.e. social worker)
