Chief School Business Official

Duties

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITY:

 

General Administration

 

  1. Keeps the Superintendent and central administration informed of matters that may impact district operations

 

  1. Participates in professional meetings, trainings, and educational associations to remain current with best practices

 

  1. Communicates effectively in both oral and written format

 

  1. Uses effective planning strategies, demonstrates strong organizational skills, and maintains attention to detail

 

  1. Demonstrates sound budgetary judgment and fiscal responsibility

 

  1. Maintains a positive, purposeful, and professional attitude

 

  1. Ensures implementation of district policy and compliance with legal and statutory requirements

 

  1. Exercises sound decision-making skills

 

  1. Completes required reports and requested information in a timely and accurate manner



Business Operations

 

  1. Oversees all aspects of the district’s transportation program

 

  1. Oversees the district’s food service/lunch program

 

  1. Prepares and presents the annual tax levy to the Board of Education

 

  1. Estimates revenues and expenditures to develop the annual district budget in collaboration with the Superintendent

 

  1. Manages and oversees the district’s group insurance plan, including coverage, rates, and presents the renewal package to the Board of Education

 

  1. Develops, implements, and monitors efficient and accurate business office procedures to ensure proper accounting of all district revenues and expenditures

 

  1. Trains, supervises, and evaluates business office staff

 

  1. Prepares bid specifications and recommends vendors for the purchase of supplies, equipment, and contractual services

 

  1. Coordinates all financial aspects of federal, state, and local grants and projects

 

  1. Prepares and submits financial reports as required

 

  1. Collaborates with the Director of Buildings and Grounds to oversee and coordinate major building projects

 

  1. Performs all other responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent or designee

Qualifications

  • Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with Chief School Business Official endorsement 
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Business, Finance, Management or a related field required
  • Master’s degree or higher in School Business Management, Finance, Accounting or a related field required

    EXPERIENCE:    


    • 3+ years of experience in a school district business office setting with experience overseeing budgets, accounts payable, payroll and other business office functions
    • Familiarity and experience with financial planning, construction, state and federal grants
    • Experience working with School ERP Pro (formerly Infinite Visions) or a similar accounting software
    • Experience completing and submitting various Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) compliance and reimbursement reports such as the Pupil Transportation Claim Reimbursement, Employment Information System (EIS) reports and other grant periodic reports is preferred

Salary/Benefits

 $110,000/minimum; plus fringe benefits

EVALUATION:  By the Superintendent, in accordance with District Policy and Admininstative Procedures

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Full-time, 12 month, 260 day position
