Position Summary

The Beach Park Middle School Principal provides strong instructional leadership and creates a positive and supportive learning environment for all students, particularly those in the crucial middle grades. This position is responsible for the overall academic success, safety, and well-being of students, staff, and the school community for the 2026 school year.

Key Responsibilities

Professional Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates support for the Vision, Mission, Beliefs, and Goals of District 3.
  • Upholds and demonstrates compliance with the established laws, regulations, District policies, and procedures.
  • Maintains strictest confidentiality required by laws, regulations, policies and directives established or provided by the Board of Education and/or Superintendent.
  • Meets deadlines for the submission of reports, report card data, and other requested information and records.
  • Serves as a contributing member of the District and building level committees.
  • Attends all Board of Education meetings.
  • Accepts and utilizes constructive suggestions from the supervisor.
  • Adheres to and enforces the chain-of-command and communicates regularly with supervisors.
  • Remains current in the field through the completion of related coursework, participation in in-service activities, and/or attendance at conferences and workshops.
  • Adheres to District guidelines regarding facilities and equipment.

Relationship with Colleagues:

  • Fosters and maintains positive and effective working relationships with teachers, administrators, support staff, District staff, students, parents, and the community.
  • Communicates with appropriate professional personnel about students.
  • Relates positively to co-workers.
  • Share ideas and techniques with peers.
  • Assumes a fair share of the responsibilities in relation to the school.
  • Practices good group skills when interacting at building faculty and District level meetings.
  • Serves as a role model for students, staff, and community in terms of attitudes, leadership, and behavior.

Instructional Leadership:

  • Oversee and evaluate the instructional program, ensuring alignment with district curriculum standards and best practices.
  • Monitor student achievement data, identify areas for improvement, and develop and implement effective intervention strategies.
  • Support and mentor teachers in their professional development, including classroom observations, coaching, and professional learning opportunities.
  • Promote a culture of collaboration and innovation among staff.
  • Makes recommendations concerning the school’s instruction.
  • Assists in the development, revision, and evaluation of the curriculum.
  • Attends Professional Learning Community, Problem Solving, I.E.P, and curriculum meetings.
  • Provides professional development for all staff.

School Culture and Climate:

  • Foster a positive and inclusive school climate where all students feel safe, respected, and valued.
  • Build strong relationships with students, staff, parents, and community members.
  • Address student behavior and discipline issues effectively and equitably.
  • Establishes guides for proper student conduct and maintains student discipline.
  • Promote a healthy and safe learning environment for all students.
  • Assists in the recruiting, screening, hiring, training, assigning and evaluating of the school’s professional staff.
  • Attends after-school extracurricular activities.
  • Attends PTO meetings and actively participates in PTO sponsored events.

School Operations:

  • Manage the school budget effectively and efficiently.
  • Oversee school operations, including building maintenance, transportation, and food services.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant state and federal regulations.
  • Manage school enrollment and registration processes.
  • Supervises all professional, paraprofessional, administrative, and nonprofessional personnel attached to the school.
  • Evaluates certified and non-certified staff.

Professional Responsibilities

  • Participates in principals’ meetings and such other meetings as are required or appropriate.
  • Serves as an official member of all committees and councils within his/her school.
  • Cooperates with college and university officials regarding teacher training and preparation.
  • Serves as a member of such committees and attends such meetings as directed by the Superintendent.
  • Keeps the Superintendent informed of events and activities of an unusual nature as well as routine matters related to the supervisor’s accountability.
  • Interprets and enforces district policies and administrative regulations.
  • Attends special events held to recognize student achievement, and attends school sponsored activities/functions and athletic events.
  • Conducts meetings with the staff as necessary for the proper functioning of the school.

Professional Development:

  • Participate in professional development activities to enhance leadership skills and stay current on educational best practices.
  • Create professional development aligned with school improvement goals
  • Mentor and support aspiring school leaders.

Building/Grounds

  • Assumes responsibility for the safety and administration of the school plant.
  • Supervises the daily use of the school facilities for both academic and nonacademic purposes.
  • Plans and supervises fire drills and an emergency preparedness program.
  • Works with various members of the central administrative staff of school or district problems such as transportation, special services, and the like.
  • Prepares work orders for maintenance as needed.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Master's degree in Educational Administration or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Illinois Professional Educator License with Principal endorsement.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of successful teaching experience at the middle school level (grades 6-8).
  • 3 years of successful administrative experience as an assistant principal or in a related leadership role (preferred).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong instructional leadership skills with a proven track record of improving student achievement.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with students, staff, parents, and community members.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to Conscious Discipline principles and implementation.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and the use of technology in education.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to equity and inclusion.
  • Spanish is preferred.

Certifications:

  • Illinois Professional Educator License with Principal endorsement.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Salary to be established by the Board on an annual basis
  • 261 days

Evaluation:

  • Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy of Evaluation of Administrative Personnel.
