Head Athletic Coach - Cross Country

Duties

SUMMARY 

The Head Athletic Coach is responsible for the overall management and leadership of the district's athletic program. This position involves developing and implementing a comprehensive athletic program that fosters student-athlete development, promotes sportsmanship, and ensures compliance with all district, state, and league regulations. The Head Athletic Coach will provide guidance and supervision to coaching staff, manage program budgets, and cultivate positive relationships with students, parents, and the community.

GENERAL DUTIES

  1. Program Leadership: 
    1. Develop and implement a comprehensive athletic program that aligns with the district's educational mission and values.
    2. Establish and maintain high standards of sportsmanship, ethical conduct, and team spirit.
    3. Ensure compliance with all district, state, and league rules and regulations.
  2. Coaching and Supervision: 
    1. Provide leadership and mentorship to assistant coaches, ensuring consistent coaching philosophies and techniques.
    2. Evaluate the performance of coaching staff and provide constructive feedback.
    3. Oversee the development of training programs and practice schedules.
    4. Coach and instruct student-athletes in sport-specific skills, strategies, and techniques.
    5. Plan and organize clinics as directed by Administration.
  3. Student-Athlete Development: 
    1. Promote the academic success and personal growth of student-athletes.
    2. Foster a positive and supportive team environment.
    3. Ensure the safety and well-being of student-athletes during practices and competitions.
  4. Program Management: 
    1. Develop and manage the athletic program budget, including equipment, supplies, and travel expenses.
    2. Maintain accurate records of student-athlete eligibility, attendance, and performance.
    3. Oversee the maintenance and inventory of athletic equipment and facilities.
  5. Community Relations: 
    1. Cultivate positive relationships with parents, community members, and booster clubs.
    2. Promote the athletic program through community outreach and public relations.
    3. Represent the district at athletic conferences and meetings.
  6. Administrative Duties: 
    1. Maintain accurate records of all athletic department activities.
    2. Coordinate physicals and eligibility paperwork for all athletes.
    3. Participate in district and school meetings as required.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS 

  1. Previous coaching experience at the collegiate or high school level (preferred).
  2. Knowledge of sport-specific rules, strategies, and techniques.
  3. Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  4. Ability to work effectively with students, parents, and staff.
  5. Knowledge of district, state, and league regulations governing athletics.
  6. Valid First Aid and CPR certification.
  7. Any state required certifications.
  8. Preferred qualifications: Full time staff member in order to promote the academic success and personal growth of student athletes

Salary/Benefits

Minimum salary will be $4,619 based on the number of years in that position as currently computed on the extracurricular salary schedule.

Additional Notes

WORKING CONDITIONS

  1. Work may be performed in indoor and outdoor settings.
  2. May require evening and weekend hours.
  3. May involve travel to away games and events.
