Job Description Overview

The Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning oversees curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional development across the district. This role ensures that teaching aligns with district goals, state standards, and best practices. The Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning works collaboratively with administrators, teachers, and community partners to enhance student learning and promote a shared vision.

The Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning plays a vital role in promoting the district’s Portrait of a Learner vision. This position ensures that the skills of Perseverance, Innovation, Wellness, Communication, and Citizenship are purposefully incorporated into curriculum and instruction. The Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning works with staff to embed these skills into teaching methods, learning activities, professional development, and ongoing improvement efforts that prepare students for their future.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Professional Educator License (PEL) with a General Administrative Endorsement.
  • Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership, Curriculum & Instruction, or a related field.
  • At least three years of successful teaching experience, demonstrating strong instructional skills and current knowledge of 21st-century learning and innovative practices.
  • Proven expertise in curriculum, instruction, assessment, and data-driven decision-making.
  • Knowledge of Illinois Learning Standards, MTSS, state assessments, and accountability requirements.
  • Experience in designing and leading professional development.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, promote a positive district image, and build effective relationships.
  • Required to travel within the district and adapt to various responsibilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Administrative or supervisory experience in a PreK-8 setting.
  • Experience supervising and evaluating both certified and administrative staff.
  • Proven ability to lead districtwide initiatives and foster school improvement.
  • Skilled at integrating instructional technology and innovative learning models.
  • Experienced in systems analysis, design thinking, and implementing instructional or organizational enhancements.
  • Teacher and Principal Evaluator Credentials.
  • Capable of managing budgets for curriculum, assessment, and professional development.
  • Experienced in developing, writing, and managing educational grants. 
  • Familiar with instructional practices and compliance requirements for English Learners.

Salary/Benefits

Salary starting at $110,000, commensurate with experience and credentials.
