Principal Share: Print: Duties Remains current regarding ideas and methods which can improve instruction. Organizes and manages in-service programs/workshops to improve staff skills. Delegates tasks to the appropriate building administrators. Works closely with the superintendent and district administrators to define and administer district policies and procedures. Supervises and evaluates building staff who hold professional educator licenses. Develops and oversees the building budget for the superintendent and director of finance. Establishes and maintains public relations programs with the community served by the school, including parent groups, youth organizations, businesses, and community/service organizations. Establishes and maintains a safe and orderly environment for students and staff. Plans the school educational program in accordance with available facilities and equipment. Supervises instruction and coordinates the implementation of curriculum. Encourages teachers to develop professionally through in-service training, workshops, and college/university coursework. Plans registration and the opening and closing of the school term. Involves students, teachers, and parents in assessing students’ educational needs. Stimulates and supports worthwhile changes in education. Coordinates the selection of new staff, and the assignment/reassignment of staff, and provides appropriate orientation/mentorship. Promotes articulation throughout the district. Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation. Attends staff meetings and Board of Education meetings, and actively serves on school and district committees. Represents the school at athletic, extracurricular, and other school events/functions. Participates in professional organizations and attends seminars, workshops, and professional development opportunities. Updates and monitors the school’s strategic plan activities and initiatives. Performs any other related duties as requested by the superintendent. Qualifications Must hold a current Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with: General Administrative or Principal endorsement; and Teacher Evaluator designation; and Principal Evaluator designation. Master’s degree plus 30 hours in Educational Leadership or related field preferred. Five years of experience in administration preferred. Teaching experience (preferably in secondary education) required. Bilingual (English-Spanish) preferred. Leadership: Ability to lead instructional review teams/process. Planning: ability to think ahead and plan over a two- to four-year time span. Management: Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities. Finance: Ability to develop and monitor school and department budgets. Data Analysis: Ability to use data to make decisions about curriculum, assessment, instruction and all school improvement efforts. Technology: Ability to stay current with educational and communications technology. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and writing skills. Coordinates department activities and planning toward common goals, providing for cooperative curriculum development and evaluation. Supports the District's philosophy of education. Initiates contact with parents and responds promptly, constructively and professionally to parent-initiated contact/concerns using a variety of mediums (including technology). Maintains professional decorum when dealing with behavioral problems.
