TITLE: Head Custodian
REPORTS TO: Maintenance and Custodial Supervisor and Director of Facilities/Operations
Work Year: 12 months
Position Overview
The Head Custodian provides direct, hands-on support to ensure buildings are clean, safe, and well-maintained.
This position trains new custodial staff, floats between district buildings to provide coverage, assists with mail delivery, and monitors probationary staff for compliance with established cleaning and safety procedures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Train custodial staff on district cleaning standards, equipment use, and safety protocols.
• Monitor and support custodial employees during their three-month probationary period.
• Float between buildings to provide coverage and assist with special projects.
• Pick up, sort, and deliver mail and packages between buildings.
• Perform inspections to confirm adherence to cleaning procedures.
• Provide corrective feedback to custodians.
• Participate in custodial evaluation process.
• Report facility and maintenance concerns promptly to supervisors.
• Assist with custodial supply inventory and distribution.
• Support event set-up, snow removal, and emergency clean-up as required.
• Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum three (3) years of custodial experience, with prior lead experience preferred.
• Knowledge of cleaning techniques, chemical safety, and equipment operation.
• Strong communication and mentoring skills.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel distances.
Physical Requirements
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and operate custodial equipment.
• Frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching.
Salary/Benefits
Salary to be determine by the board of directors, dependent upon experience.
