Elementary School Assistant Principal

Duties

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Act as the building leader in the absence of the Principal.
  2. Share, with the Building Principal, the responsibility for protecting the health and welfare of students, including practices dealing with campus control and security and  campus supervision.
  3. Oversee the implementation of social-emotional learning, discipline, and all student behavior programs.
  4. Counsel individual students who are sent to the office for disciplinary and attendance reasons, and resolve all discipline and attendance problems in a fair and just manner.
  5. Assign students reasonable corrective disciplinary measures as needed, and log all discipline data in the student management system.
  6. Confer with parents, teachers, counselors, support service personnel, and students on matters of discipline, attendance and welfare. When necessary, make appropriate referrals for counseling, community and government agencies, and testing.
  7. Assist the Principal in all aspects of instruction, with a focus to deliberately identify and spread the instructional practices most effective in meeting the learning goals of the school and District.
  8. Assist the Principal in developing school improvement plans, aligning with the established goals and objectives for the District.
  9. Develop and implement professional learning activities for the staff aligning with the established school improvement plans for the school.
  10. Serve as a member of such committees and attend meetings as directed to by the Superintendent and/or Building Principal.
  11. Model learning and shape the conditions necessary to build a strong, collaborative culture that supports the continuous learning of students and teachers.
  12. Assist in the interpretation of and provides suggestions for school and district programs, policies, and handbook procedures to students, parents, staff, and community.
  13. Assist the Building Principal in annually developing and implementing the budget for the school.
  14. Assist the Principal with the supervision, and observations and evaluations, of staff members and certified teachers.
  15. As directed by the Principal, share responsibility for participating in special education scheduling, placement, and staffing, and coordinate all 504 Plans for the building.
  16. Assist in the accurate collection, filing, and completion of all records and reports required by school law, the State of Illinois, and the Superintendent and/or Building Principal.
  17. Attend and assist in the planning and supervision of all family and parent nights hosted, as directed by the Superintendent and/or Building Principal.
  18. Assume responsibility for other duties and special projects as assigned by the Superintendent and/or Building Principal.
  19. Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent and/or Building Principal.

Qualifications

(1) A valid Illinois Professional Educator License with a general administrative or Principal endorsement; (2) a Master’s Degree in educational administration or its equivalent; (3) at least four years of classroom teaching experience; (4) appropriate experience as a school administrator

Salary/Benefits

Compensation for the position is regionally competitive, ranging from $75,000 to $90,000.  Health insurance will be offered through Blue Cross Blue Shield.  Benefits will be negotiated with the final candidate.  Additional benefits offered to certified-staff members can be accessed by clicking this link.

Additional Notes
