Duties
To assist in providing a complete educational opportunity for each student by minimizing absence due to illness and creating a climate of health and well-being in the district schools.
Reports to:
- Building principal
- District Coordinator of Nursing Services
- Assistant Superintendent of Pupil/Personnel Services
Performance Responsibilities of the Health Professional:
- Observation of students on a regular basis to detect health needs and making appropriate referrals to school authorities and/or outside agencies as needed.
- Consult with district nursing coordinator, parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics and other agencies on school health issues.
- Maintain up-to-date cumulative health records on all students in the building.
- Provide care of both students and staff members in the event of illness/injury in accordance with district policy.
- Dispense medication as ordered.
- Access students with special needs and/or health problems and report that information to the appropriate school personnel. Attend meetings as requested by building administrator to provide input on student's medical needs.
- Conduct health screenings as required by the State of Illinois as well as those provided by Moline-Coal Valley School District 40. Provide follow-up and referral information as needed. Screenings include but are not limited to such things as:
- Vision and Hearing
- Dental Examinations/Sealant Program
- Prepare and submit health data and reports as mandated by the State of Illinois by the dates required.
- Advise the building administrator on exclusion and readmission of students not in compliance with state requirements as well as students with infectious/contagious disease, in accordance with IDPH guidelines and district policy.
- Assume responsibility for administering and monitoring medical treatment and/or medication given to students while attending school, in accordance with The Nurse Practice Act and district policy.
- Prepare and participate in the Human Growth and Development curriculum for all 4th-6th graders in the district.
- Conduct/participate in training programs as required by the district such as CPR/AED Certification. First Aid Practices, Blood-Borne Pathogen protocol, and in-servicing of bus drivers as needed.
Qualifications
Must hold an active Illinois Registered Nurse License.
This person shall possess the personal characteristics and ability to work closely and cooperatively with students, parents, and staff. Must be knowledgeable of school functioning and operation.
Salary/Benefits
32 hours /week
Salary: As assigned by the MESPA guidelines (starting at $31.47/hour)
Benefits: Personal and Sick days per MESPA contract.
