Duties

JOB GOAL: 

To serve those children whose social, emotional, and/or behavioral challenges interfere greatly with their ability to benefit from the school experience. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provides consultation and in-service training to school personnel.
  2. Participates in the identification of those children who require social work intervention and provides the social-development study in a case study evaluation.
  3. Assists students with adapting to various aspects of the school environment.
  4. Serves as a liaison between the home and the school, and for providing parental education and counseling as appropriate in relation to the child’s problem.
  5. Facilitates the effective utilization of existing community resources to meet the needs of school children.
  6. Keeps informed of new developments in the field of school social work.
  7. Participates in case conferences when referred students are involved, or as requested.
  8. Assists families with designing their individual family service plan and refers them to appropriate services and agencies.
  9. Participates in staffing and Individual Education Plan (IEP) and/or 504 conferences as relates to their direct client.
  10. Participates in RTI and other district wide interventions.
  11. Consults with teachers and parents as appropriate to assist them in addressing the expectations for social decision making, behavioral, mental health, and academic goals based on SEL standards.
  12.  Facilitates a comprehensive continuum of support that promotes healthy positive youth development using the social emotional learning standards.
  13. Keeps up-to-date on current research and practice referenced in the National School Social Work Practice Model.
  14. Assists with collecting and analyzing data regarding program participant outcomes, in the following priority areas: improving Tier 1 instructional practices, policies, and student outcomes.
  15. Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
  16. Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping regarding the services delivered.
  17. Coordinates with other professional staff members to evaluate and assess the social and emotional curriculum, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
  18. Applies knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
  19. Applies knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
  20. Uses computer network system and software applications as needed.
  21. Organizes and coordinates work efficiently.
  22. Communicates effectively with students and parents.
  23. Engages in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
  24. Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work. 
  25. Performs other related tasks as assigned by the principal/assistant principal and other district office administrators as designated by the superintendent.
  26. Adheres to a professional code of ethics which includes confidentiality of school related matters and loyalty to the school district.

Qualifications

  1. Valid and appropriate Illinois licensure.
  2. School Social Worker endorsement required.
  3. Prior school experience preferred. 
  4. Complete required professional development to retain certification.
  5. Successful completion of fingerprint based criminal background check (IL State Police and FBI), sex offender and violent youth offender screening, and employment physical.

Salary/Benefits

2025-26 SY Annual Pay Range $44,300-$70,000 (190 days per school year)  (Dependent upon years of experience and education - minimum Master's Degree)

**A new teacher induction academy will be held for all new licensed staff on Thursday, July 31 and Friday, August 1.
