Duties

The District-Wide Technician performs a range of system administration functions requiring a technical computer support background. Responsibilities include installing and configuring network devices, as well as diagnosing and resolving communications, hardware, and operating problems.    

 

Primary Responsibilities:

 

  • Performs a range of system administration functions in order to control systems and attain maximum utilization and efficiency.
  • Installs and configures internal hardware components such as memory, disk, and tape drives in multi-user devices and servers in order to maintain or enhance system operation and capabilities.
  • Performs troubleshooting and fault isolation on devices, servers, local area networks, wide area networks or related system components in order to maintain or enhance system operation and capabilities.
  • Assists in the maintenance of inventory records for software, hardware, peripherals, and licenses.
  • Responsible for the installation and repair of computer systems.
  • Assists users with problem solving by responding and resolving issues communicated through work

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required. Two years of college experience with coursework in MIS, computer data processing, or computer science;
  • One year of experience working in a technology position that requires the ability to troubleshoot computer problems;
  • Prior experience working with network systems preferred;
  • Valid state of Illinois driver’s license;
  • Knowledge of computer hardware and software components;
  • Knowledge of proper computer system data security and backup procedures;
  • Ability to install computer hardware and software;
  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot computer system problems;
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and apply computer technology skills rapidly; and
  • Strong communication, public relation, and interpersonal skills.

Salary/Benefits

  • Salary range of $41,250 to $45,000, commensurate with relevant experience;
  • Paid vacation, sick days, and personal days provided;

Additional Notes

Working Conditions:
 

  • Work hours: 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • 12-month position.
  • Position requires travel to various sites throughout the District.
