Duties
Position Summary
The Dean of Students/Assistant Principal of Summit Academy will support the Principal in managing the
school’s academic, behavioral, and operational functions, ensuring the effective implementation of the
academy's mission to reset, connect, restore, and return. This position will involve a blend of leadership
support and operational coordination, working closely with staff to foster student success. The Dean of
Students/Assistant Principal will collaborate with the Executive Director, leadership team, and external
stakeholders to enhance educational opportunities and provide students with a second chance at
academic achievement and personal growth.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Mission Support
- Support the Principal in carrying out the Academy’s mission to restore and graduate
students by fostering a positive and inclusive environment where social-emotional
health and academic success are prioritized.
- Work closely with the leadership team to implement strategies that align with Summit
Academy’s focus on restorative practices, life skills development, and trauma-informed
education.
- Actively support and provide leadership to Summit Academy’s PLC teams
- Take an active role in promoting the Academy’s values of empathy, accountability, and
student voice.
Program and Curriculum Support
- Assist in overseeing the development and implementation of individualized student success plans, ensuring students’ academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs are addressed.
- Support the multi-tiered system of academic and behavioral support, ensuring the use of evidence-based strategies in everyday classroom practices.
- Collaborate with teaching staff to ensure that the curriculum and instruction are aligned with the mission of Summit Academy and meet the diverse needs of students.
Staff and Operations Management
- Supervise staff members, providing formal and informal evaluations, feedback, and
professional development opportunities.
- Assist in managing the daily operations of the Academy, ensuring smooth opening and
closing procedures and maintaining a safe, organized learning environment.
- Promote staff accountability and model expectations for professional behavior and engagement with students.
- Student Success and Behavioral Support
- Actively supervises school-wide academic and behavior interventions, ensuring that students have the support they need to succeed academically and personally.
- Take an active role in resolving disciplinary matters by modeling expectations and supporting restorative practices in student behavior management.
- Assist in supporting the transition plans for students, ensuring that they are prepared for reintegration into their home schools or for successful graduation.
- Communication and Collaboration
- Communicate regularly with the Principal and leadership team to provide updates on student progress, program developments, and challenges.
- Foster positive relationships with staff, students, families, and community partners to ensure collaborative support for students’ academic and personal growth.
- Serve as a liaison between the Principal and staff to relay programmatic needs and provide solutions.
- Data-Informed Decision Making
- Use data to monitor student outcomes and inform instructional practices, academic interventions, and behavioral support strategies.
- Regularly analyze student data to ensure that both academic and behavioral supports are having a positive impact on student achievement and well-being.
Salary/Benefits
210 Day Contract per year: July -June
100% individual and spouse insurance coverage
2% TRS
Salary range: $75,000-$95,000 depending on experience and qualifications
