Duties

  • Instruction and Curriculum:
    • Plan, design, and deliver engaging, standards-aligned ELA lessons utilizing Great Minds Wit & Wisdom curriculum
    • Implement various teaching methods and strategies to meet varying student needs.
    • Develop and use a variety of resources, including novels, videos, and technology.
    • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners.
    • Maintain a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages student participation and collaboration.
  • Assessment and Evaluation:
    • Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback.
    • Develop and administer various assessments, including formative and summative assessments based on Great Minds Wit & Wisdom curriculum
    • Evaluate student work and assign grades accurately and fairly.
  • Classroom Management:
    • Establish and maintain a safe, orderly, and productive classroom environment.
    • Manage student behavior according to school policies and procedures.
    • Address student needs and concerns in a timely and effective manner.
  • Communication and Collaboration:
    • Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and parents to support student learning.
    • Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress and classroom activities.
    • Attend faculty meetings and participate in professional development opportunities.
Professional Development:
  • Stay current with best practices in ELA teaching.
  • Participate in professional development activities to enhance teaching skills.
  • Seek out opportunities to learn and grow professionally. 

Intervention:

  • Provide additional support to students in grades 6-8 who are struggling with reading, writing, or literacy skills

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field.
  • Valid teaching license 
  • Experience teaching ELA in a middle school setting is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of ELA curriculum standards and best practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong classroom management skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and parents.

Additional Notes

St. Michael the Archangel School is a small, parochial school with a current student body of approximately 200 students (PreK-8). Class sizes are limited to 25 students. The staff works closely together and function as a unit.
