Function / Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, the Coordinator is responsible for advancing the School District U-46 strategic plan to ensure that all students, regardless of their backgrounds, achieve at high levels academically, socially, and emotionally. This position will focus on fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for both students and staff by ensuring that diversity, equity, and inclusion principles are integrated into daily practices and school culture. The Coordinator of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion will oversee key initiatives related to early intervening services, student voice, staff engagement, and safe and inclusive learning environments as it pertains to the U-46 Strategic Plan.
Job Duties / Responsibilities
Early Intervening Services:
- Provide training on culturally responsive teaching, behavior management, and evidence-based intervention techniques.
- Coach school teams on the use of assessment tools, progress monitoring systems, and intervention planning.
- Facilitate collaboration among general education teachers, special educators, and support staff to align practices and reduce barriers to student success.
Student Voice and Advocacy:
- Oversee the administration and analysis of student surveys (such as the Panorama survey) to gather feedback on student experiences, particularly around equity, inclusion, and school culture.
- Facilitate and support student focus groups, ensuring that student voices are heard in decision-making processes and in the development of DEI initiatives.
- Lead efforts to facilitate administrator professional learning that will ensure the development of high-functioning student advisory groups at all U-46 schools.
- Empower student leadership in equity-related initiatives through forums, advisory groups, and peer mentorship programs.
Staff Affinity Groups
- Lead the development and support of staff affinity groups that provide spaces for educators to engage in conversations around identity, equity, and inclusion.
- Ensure that staff affinity groups are supported through regular meetings, resources, and professional development opportunities that foster a sense of belonging and community.
- Facilitate connections between staff affinity groups and the district’s broader DEI initiatives, ensuring that staff experiences and concerns are incorporated into district planning.
Safe and Inclusive Learning Environments
- Lead district-wide efforts to prevent bullying, harassment, and hate incidents, ensuring that all students feel safe, respected, and supported.
- Provide professional learning to district and school staff on cultural competence, implicit bias, and equitable instructional practices.
- Collaborate with district and school leadership and support staff to implement and reinforce anti-bullying policies, restorative practices, and anti-hate education across schools.
- Monitor and respond to incidents of bullying and hate, providing guidance on appropriate interventions and follow-up actions.
Learning Conditions and Continuous Improvement:
- Conduct school visits to assess learning conditions in alignment with the district’s strategic plan, ensuring that schools are providing equitable and supportive environments for all students.
- Develop and refine a set of equitable attributes to use during school walkthroughs, focusing on areas such as classroom climate, student engagement, access to resources, and instructional practices.
- Work closely with school leaders and teachers to ensure continuous improvement in learning conditions, providing feedback and support to help schools meet equity goals.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with the Director of DEI to align district-wide initiatives and goals, ensuring that all DEI efforts are coordinated and strategically implemented.
- Collaborate with school leaders, educators, counselors, and community partners to strengthen DEI practices across the district.
Salary/Benefits
Terms of Employment
- This is a 12-month position. Salary and benefits as established by the Board of Education.
The salary of this position is $100,716.00 - $151,055.00. It is our practice to hire between somewhere between the low-mid range ($125,888.00)
