Duties
Goal: To assist the classroom teacher(s) through providing support services in a multitude of academic, behavioral, social emotional, and or health areas.
Duties:
- Assists in the planning and preparation of student activities under the direction of the classroom and special education teacher including academic, behavioral, and social-emotional goals.
- Collaborate with the special education teacher and other staff to monitor the student’s progress, document behavioral incidents, and contribute to regular assessments.
- Works with students 1 on 1 and in small groups to achieve goals indicated in IEP’s and 504 plans.
- Use proactive strategies to support students’ learning, including reinforcement techniques, behavioral support, and individualized accommodations.
- Assist in maintaining a safe and orderly environment by ensuring that students are consistently following rules/expectations, intervening when appropriate and following classroom and district procedures.
- Monitors and redirects the student(s) when engaging in elopement behaviors, helping to de-escalate situations and keep the student in the classroom or designated area.
- Manage situations where students may need additional physical support to prevent elopement or ensure safety.
- Serves as a recess and lunchroom supervisor.
- Follows district policies, rules, and procedures.
- Fosters the development of students’ skills, including communication, social interactions, and independence.
- Participate in meetings and professional development to stay informed about students’ needs and strategies to improve support.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student information and follow all school policies and regulations.
- Other duties assigned by the Superintendent, Principal, Lead Teachers & Board of Education.
Qualifications
Illinois Paraprofessional License
Salary/Benefits
Regionally competitive, beginning wage $17.50 and up.
