Junior High Special Education Teachers/ELA


REPORTS TO:
Building Principal


PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITY:

Instructional Planning & Knowledge of Subject Matter

1) Establishes specific learning objectives
2) Plans for a variety of methods and materials appropriate to lesson objectives
3) Provides for differences of abilities, achievement levels and learning styles as
appropriate to subject and matter
4) Program emphasis is on the development of critical academic, communication,
social, and life skills through a collaborative team-based approach.
5 )Maintains concise written lesson plans in accordance with the established format
6) Plans evaluation of student achievement in relation to stated objectives
7) Utilizes a variety diagnostic and assessment information
8) Adheres to district curriculum guidelines, time limits and objectives
9) Demonstrates a knowledge of subject matter and incorporates this knowledge in
lesson development
10) Accepts responsibility for the safety and well-being of the students while
children are on the school premises
11) Utilizes the elements of principles of Applied Behavior Analysis, Verbal
Behavior, and structured teaching.
12) Daily instruction focuses on communication, socialization, daily living skills,
leisure skills, motor development, community-based instruction, health
management, vocational training/instruction, behavior management, and assistive
technology.

Instructional Implementation & Classroom Management

1) Makes students aware of lesson objective(s)
2) Reflects previously stated objectives in classroom presentation and/or activities
3) Uses a variety of methods of instruction such as lecture, discovery, discussion
and student practice associated with individual student observation and assistance
4) Uses probing questioning techniques to determine or establish understanding of
concepts, relationships and feedback
5) Uses a variety of and sufficient evaluative procedure such as written and oral tests
and evaluation of continued use of skills in language activities
6) Creates a positive learning environment and provides for complementary
physical arrangement and décor of the classroom to support instructional method
7) Monitors students continually to develop on task behavior
8) Creates an appropriate atmosphere, using contact time efficiently
9) Demonstrates enthusiasm and exhibits high expectations for students
10) Makes learning presentation appropriate to students abilities and capable of
holding students’ interests
11) Maintains appropriate communication with students
12) Provides opportunities for all students to experience success
13) Demonstrates respect of, is tolerant of, and is fair to all students

PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITY:

1) Provides concise and timely oral and/or written reports to parents
2) Maintains accurate and sufficient records of student progress and behavior
3) Develops standards of behavior, presents standards to students and consistently
adheres to expected student behaviors and associated consequences
4) Adheres to and enforces established school discipline policies
5) Accepts appropriate share of responsibility for total school operation
6) Uses a professional manner in dealing with students, co-workers, parents
and community
7) Performs such other professional duties and responsibilities as may be assigned
by the principal and/or district administration
8) Other than for serious and/or extended illness, does not exhibit excessive or
patterns of absences exceeding yearly sick leave allotment.
9) Reports for work day, staff meetings and other time commitments in a punctual
manner
10) Addresses the need for each child and young adult to develop the academic and
functional life skills necessary for adult life and to experience social interactions
and relationships with peers in educational and community environments.

Qualifications

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree
Demonstrates aptitude for successful completion of professional responsibilities

Licensure:
Appropriate Illinois State Board of Education License (PEL) with LBS1 Pre K through Age 21 Endorsement; General ELA Endorsement Preferred

 

Salary/Benefits

SALARY: Based on training and experience in accordance with the Agreement between Indian Springs School District #109 and Indian Springs Council, Local 571 of the IFT/AFT. $53,873/minimum
