Duties

JOB SUMMARY: The Assistive Technology Coordinator serves as an instructional leader, provides technical assistance to instructional staff with respect to meeting each individual’s goals contained within the Individual Education Plan and other targeted interventions, specially related to meeting the Assistive Technology needs of students.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

 

  • Work with teacher committees to review and revise curriculum, instruction, and evaluate materials, specifically as it relates to Assistive Technology
  • Assist instructional staff to modify and adapt lessons and curriculum as needed to meet individual student needs and IEP Goals, specifically as it relates to Assistive Technology
  • Conduct and assist instructional staff to modify, adapt and conduct formal and informal assessments to evaluate student needs and progress in the area of Assistive Technology.  
  • Assist instructional staff to review student progress via assessment data, maintain records of student work, and develop interventions strategies to ensure student success and growth.  
  • Meet regularly and work collaboratively with other Teachers, Paraprofessionals and Specialists to discuss individual student’s modifications or adaptations, ongoing learning issues, interventions or problems.  Work collaboratively with staff to discuss individual student’s modifications or adaptations, ongoing learning issues, interventions and concerns.
  • Collaborate with other staff in planning, modifying, enhancing and implementing curriculum, school and District goals and objectives.
  • Enforce and support District and School policies, philosophies and objectives with students and parents.
  • Lead and participate in staff development and school improvement activities in order to maintain professional growth.  Plan and implement best practices and strategies. 
  • Provide ongoing support for engaged learning practices
  • Coordinate the purchasing, inventorying, and distribution of program, department, and student specific materials and equipment
  • Serve as a liaison between the Student Services Department and the Technology Department in order to assist with program development and device selection
  • Assist schools with identifying school improvement goals and evidence-based strategies for improvement
  • Enforce and support District and School policies, philosophies and objectives with students and parents
  • Serve as a role model for all students and perform their duties to create an environment that is conducive to providing students an enhanced and engaged learning opportunity.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION 

  • Master’s degree in speech pathology, special education, or administration.
  • Appropriate valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with a teaching or school support personnel endorsement required, administrative or teacher leadership endorsement is preferred.

 
EXPERIENCE

  • Five years successful teaching experience in a school support or special education setting 

 
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge, skills, and experience in working with learners with disabilities.
  • Ability to plan and organize effective staff development.
  • Knowledge of/experience with assistive technology.
  • Evidence of relationship-building, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Evidence of regular engagement in and desire to continue professional learning, implementation, and reflection
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with interruptions.
  • Experience mentoring or serving in a capacity as a teacher leader, with desire for continued leadership opportunities.
  • Ability to develop respect and rapport with colleagues as an educator who embraces the continuous improvement cycle; is supportive of the development of other educators; and is student learning focused.
  • Experience with integration of instructional technology to enhance delivery and learning
  • Demonstrated use of strategies for ensuring equitable practices in a diverse learning environment
  • Effective communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills with a record of building relationships that foster collegial trust, promote teacher efficacy, aspire to high expectations and accountability, and maintain a common instructional focus as an effective team member.

Salary/Benefits

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Salary is in accordance with the teacher salary schedule. The work year for this position is 196 days.
