Duties

Clay City CUSD #10, a small rural school district committed to academic excellence and student success, is seeking a High School English Language Arts (ELA) Teacher to provide engaging instruction in reading, writing, and critical thinking. The ideal candidate will cultivate a passion for literature, effective communication skills, and analytical thinking in students while preparing them for college, careers, and lifelong learning.

 

 

  • Develop and deliver engaging, standards-aligned lesson plans following the Illinois Learning Standards for ELA.
  • Teach a variety of high school English courses, which may include American Literature, British Literature, World Literature, Composition, and Creative Writing.
  • Foster critical thinking, analytical writing, and effective communication skills through literature, writing workshops, and discussions.
  • Utilize differentiated instruction, project-based learning, and technology integration to meet diverse student needs.
  • Encourage a love of reading by incorporating classic and contemporary literature into the curriculum.
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback on student writing and assessments.
  • Prepare students for state assessments, college entrance exams, and post-secondary opportunities.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, parents, and school leadership to support student success.
  • Maintain accurate student records and communicate progress effectively with students, families, and administration.
  • Contribute to the positive culture of Clay City CUSD #10 by participating in professional development, school initiatives, and community engagement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, or a related field.
  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with an endorsement in English Language Arts (or the ability to obtain certification).
  • Strong classroom management skills and the ability to engage and challenge students.
  • Experience or willingness to implement student-centered, project-based, and literacy-focused instruction.
  • Knowledge of writing instruction, research-based literacy strategies, and assessment best practices.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.

Salary/Benefits

Salary Range $38,200 - $64,470.  Board paid TRS, 14 sick days 3 personal days, health, dental, and vision insurance.
