Duties

JOB SUMMARY: The Assistant Director of Transportation will work as part of the team to coordinate the operations of the Transportation Department. The Team is responsible for ensuring and improving the performance, productivity, safety and efficiency of departmental and organizational operations through the provision of effective methods and strategies requiring leadership and organizational skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Improve processes and policies in support of district and departmental goals. Formulate and implement departmental   policies and procedures in participation with the Management Team. Monitor adherence to rules, regulations and procedures.
  • Serve as a role model for all students/staff and perform their duties to create an environment that is conducive to providing students an enhanced and engaged learning opportunity.
  • Plan the use of human resources. Organize recruitment and placement of required staff. Establish organizational structures. Delegate tasks and accountabilities. Establish work schedules. Supervise staff. Monitor and evaluate performance.
  • Coordinate and monitor the work of driving, office and vehicle maintenance staff involved in student transportation. Monitor performance and improvements. Manage quality and quantity of employee productivity.
  • Facilitate coordination and communication between support functions.
  • 24/7 on call status and/or whenever VVSD department vehicles are in transit.
  • Development of strategic plans for operational activity. Implement and assist in management of operational plans.
  • Develop and manage employee training, certifications and education.
  • Schedule and coordinate random drug/alcohol testing program.
  • Required to drive when necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Experience in Transportation fleet operations.
  • Fluent in Spanish language both oral and written communication is a plus.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all clients internally and externally to resolve conflicts and concerns.
  • Proficient in Windows applications.
  • Experience with computer/manual routing and scheduling.
  • Must hold or have the ability and requirements to obtain the required license and permit for Illinois School Bus Driver.
  • Must hold or attain certification in CPR/First Aid, Crisis Prevention (CPI), State Bus Driver Trainer.
  • Knowledge of implementation of all Transportation related programs.
  • Knowledge of human resource principles and practices.

Salary/Benefits

Salary Range: $70,000-$80,000
