Duties

 Develop, implement, and evaluate special education programs to meet the needs of students with disabilities.

  • Ensure compliance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Section 504, and all applicable state and federal laws.
  • Supervise and support special education teachers, paraprofessionals, and related service providers.
  • Coordinate the development and implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and 504 Plans.
  • Monitor student progress and program effectiveness, making data-driven recommendations for improvement.
  • Serve as the district’s primary liaison with the Special Education Cooperative
  • Provide professional development and training for special education staff and general education teachers on best practices, legal compliance, and instructional strategies.
  • Ensure proper implementation of accommodations, modifications, and behavioral interventions.
  • Maintain accurate records and submit required reports to the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) and other agencies.
  • Conduct internal audits of special education files and services to ensure compliance with state and federal guidelines.
  • Respond to parent concerns and facilitate mediation, resolution meetings, or due process hearings as necessary.
  • Work closely with parents, teachers, administrators, and outside agencies to support students’ educational needs.
  • Participate in IEP and eligibility meetings, ensuring appropriate placement and services for students.
  • Coordinate transition services for students moving from early childhood to elementary, elementary to middle/high school, and high school to postsecondary opportunities.
  • Develop partnerships with local agencies to support students with disabilities, including vocational rehabilitation services.
  • Develop and manage the special education budget, including grants and IDEA funding.
  • Allocate resources effectively to ensure students receive necessary services and supports.
  • Oversee the purchase of specialized instructional materials, assistive technology, and adaptive equipment.

 

Qualifications

 

  • Master’s degree in Special Education, Educational Leadership, or related field.
  • Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with a Director of Special Education Endorsement or admin endorsement.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in special education teaching or administration.
  • Strong knowledge of Illinois special education laws, funding, and compliance requirements.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.

 

Salary/Benefits

$40,675 to $64,470.  Board paid TRS, health insurance, 7 sick days, 1.5 personal days.
