Job Summary: Under the direction of the Building Principal and Student Services Director, the Licensed Special Education Teacher develops and provides specialized instruction to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities; Evaluates and assesses student progress against instructional objectives; follows State mandated due process procedures and functions as IEP Manager to assigned students.
 
Duties:

  1. Provide services to students in a Self-Contained setting
  2. Employs a variety of instructional techniques, instructional media, and performance assessments, which guide the learning process toward curriculum goals and student learning
  3. Uses technology to promote learning, creativity, and collaboration.
  4. Create a classroom environment that is conducive to the learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students as needed
  5. Implement reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintain order in a fair and consistent manner
  6. Prepare for students assigned, provide adaptations as necessary and show written evidence of preparation upon request
  7. Strive to implement instruction and action the District's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives
  8. Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide necessary communication with parents on an as needed basis
  9. Work cooperatively and collaboratively with other school personnel in the identification, diagnosis, and remediation of individual students with special needs
  10. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
  11. Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation; assist administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct
  12. Strive to maintain and improve professional competence by attending conferences, workshops, and/or coursework 
  13. Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees
     

Qualifications

ualifications:

  1. Current and Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (LBS 1 Required OR Emergency Special Education Endorsement)
  2. Excellent communication skills
  3. Evidence of planning, organization and time management skills that will bring structure and accountability to the position
  4. Experience with Cross-Categorical students 
  5. Ability to collaborate with teachers regarding student learning
  6. Understanding of student learning theory and differentiated instruction

 

Salary/Benefits

  1. Salary Range: $52,520 - $76,640 Based upon educational attainment and years of service- Up to 15 Years of Experience can be granted 
  2. Educational Advancement Increases BA +15, MA, MA +15, MA +30 and MA +45 
  3. Signing Bonus 
  4. Teacher Supply Allotment $200 per year 
  5. Health, Dental and Vision Benefits (Medical Employer pays between 5%-12% of monthly premium)
  6. Tuition Reimbursement up to $2700 a year 
  7. Professional Development/Workshops 
  8. Paid for New Teacher Induction prior to the start of the school year
