Position Type: Special Education Teacher (Elementary)
Location: Hillside School
Salary Range: Per the Collective Bargaining Agreement
Job Summary: Under the direction of the Building Principal and Student Services Director, the Licensed Special Education Teacher develops and provides specialized instruction to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities; Evaluates and assesses student progress against instructional objectives; follows State mandated due process procedures and functions as IEP Manager to assigned students.
Duties:
- Provide services to students in a Self-Contained setting
- Employs a variety of instructional techniques, instructional media, and performance assessments, which guide the learning process toward curriculum goals and student learning
- Uses technology to promote learning, creativity, and collaboration.
- Create a classroom environment that is conducive to the learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students as needed
- Implement reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintain order in a fair and consistent manner
- Prepare for students assigned, provide adaptations as necessary and show written evidence of preparation upon request
- Strive to implement instruction and action the District's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives
- Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide necessary communication with parents on an as needed basis
- Work cooperatively and collaboratively with other school personnel in the identification, diagnosis, and remediation of individual students with special needs
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
- Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation; assist administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct
- Strive to maintain and improve professional competence by attending conferences, workshops, and/or coursework
- Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees
