Duties
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Maintain current knowledge of special education and disability processes and procedures in order to meet state and federal requirements
- Support the provision of an integrated program of services to facilitate the academic, physical, social, emotional and functional skill development of all students with specific responsibility for services related to special education and disability programming
- Assist with supervision and evaluations of Support personnel such as occupational therapist, physical therapist, speech and language pathologist, nurses, and special education teachers, and special education paraprofessionals
- Coordinate the delivery and operation of student services through communication with building level student services coordinators, principals, assistant principals, and district administration
- Plan, lead, and facilitate district Extended School Year programming including class lists, staffing, hiring, and supervision
- Supervision, development and implementation of high incidence programming, including: Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing and Vision Impairment programs, LEAP, SEAL, Transitional Kindergarten, Co-Taught and Resource instruction OR supervision of low incidence programming, including: Adapted Physical Education, Adaptive Music, Assistive Technology, MILE, AIME, Cross Categorical, SIP, and Multiple Needs including curricular needs, materials/resource needs, and assessment needs.
- Lead regular high and low incidence district-wide meetings by program to provide support to special education teacher
- Participate in development of high and low incidence staffing plans to ensure effective implementation of special education programs and student health services
- Plan, lead, and implement professional development programs for student services staff including new staff orientation and district mentoring programs.
- Coordinate placements in state-approved private educational facilities for eligible students and provide case management for the students
- Serve as Out of District placement liaison for families and students; including attendance at IEP meetings
- Collaborate with the Transportation Department to provide appropriate transportation plans for students with individual needs Support buildings in student discipline decisions, practices and procedures for students with disabilities Support buildings in student discipline decisions, practices and procedures for students with disabilities ? Implementation and operation of an IEP data-base system through consultation and coordination with necessary district departments
- Participate in the development of budget recommendations for the Department of Student Services and oversight of the effective utilization of the available resources
- Contribute to the preparation and submission of state and federal reporting and claims processes.
- Participate in mediation and/or due process special education hearings under the authority of the Illinois State Board of Education, as directed
- Participate in Office of Civil Rights and Illinois State Board of Education complaint resolution, as directed
- Participate in monitoring child abuse reports and DCFS mandated reporter procedures
- Support the Implementation of isolated time-out and physical restraint procedures in accordance with state and federal guidelines
- Collaborate and consult with community resources, agencies and educational institutions for the effective delivery of integrated, comprehensive student services for children with disabilities in District 15
- Lead Special Education Administration Department Meetings
- Coordinate and implement CPI training plan for the district
- Other duties as assigned
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Facilitate an environment of growth and acceptance by coordinating appropriate services for all of the school’s students with disabilities and maintain program compliance in keeping with district, state, and federal policies and procedures. Responsibilities include: managing the district’s special education programs and services; developing related goals, objectives and recommending policies; planning, implementing and working with staff in evaluating the special education programs and services; and acting as a liaison with other district staff, serving as a resource of information regarding special education programs and services. Significant time is required for analyzing data, planning activities, monitoring programs/services, attending IEP meetings, supporting staff members and parents, and consulting with program personnel.
Salary/Benefits
Salary: Beginning salary at $80,000

EDUCATION, CREDENTIALS and/or EXPERIENCE
- Illinois PEL with Director of Special Education endorsement (required) and General Administrative endorsement (preferred)
- Master’s Degree in Special Education, Administration, or related field
- Teacher and Principal Evaluator Modules in Observation and Growth
- Minimum of five (5) years of school service
- Minimum of three (3) years of administrative experience
