Duties

Job Summary:

We are seeking an energetic and dedicated Physical Education (PE) Teacher to join our junior high team. The ideal candidate will promote physical fitness, teamwork, and healthy lifestyles through engaging and developmentally appropriate activities. This teacher will create a positive and inclusive environment where all students can improve their physical skills, sportsmanship, and overall well-being.

Key Responsibilities:

Instruction & Classroom Management:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive PE curriculum aligned with state and national physical education standards.
  • Teach a variety of sports, fitness activities, and health-related exercises that promote lifelong wellness.
  • Differentiate instruction to accommodate students of all skill levels, including those with disabilities or medical limitations.
  • Foster a safe and inclusive environment where students feel encouraged to participate and improve.
  • Incorporate team-building activities and character education to promote leadership, respect, and sportsmanship.
  • Monitor student behavior and enforce school safety procedures and discipline guidelines.

Assessment & Student Support:

  • Assess student progress in motor skills, physical fitness, and teamwork through observations and performance-based assessments.
  • Provide students with feedback on their physical abilities and areas for improvement.
  • Encourage students to set personal fitness goals and track their progress.
  • Adapt activities and modify instruction to ensure all students can participate safely and successfully.

Collaboration & Professional Responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively with other PE teachers, coaches, and school staff to align curriculum and extracurricular offerings.
  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians about student progress and participation.
  • Maintain accurate records of student participation, fitness assessments, and attendance.
  • Supervise students in locker rooms and ensure adherence to school safety and hygiene protocols.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school-wide wellness initiatives.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience coaching school sports teams or leading extracurricular fitness programs.
  • Knowledge of CPR, first aid, and emergency response procedures.
  • Familiarity with technology-based fitness tracking tools and interactive PE programs.
  • Ability to foster positive relationships with students and encourage a healthy lifestyle.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, Health Education, or a related field.
  • Certification: Valid state teaching certification in Physical Education (Grades 6-8 or applicable level).
  • Experience: Prior experience teaching PE or coaching junior high students is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of physical fitness principles, sports rules, and injury prevention.
  • Ability to differentiate instruction and adapt activities for students with varying abilities.
  • Excellent classroom management, communication, and organizational skills.
