Duties
We are seeking a knowledgeable and engaging Social Studies Teacher to join our junior high team. The ideal candidate will inspire students to explore history, geography, civics, and economics while developing critical thinking, research, and discussion skills. This teacher will create dynamic, standards-aligned lessons that encourage students to connect past and present events to their own lives and the world around them.
Key Responsibilities:
Instruction & Classroom Management:
- Plan and deliver engaging social studies lessons aligned with state and district curriculum standards.
- Teach historical events, civic responsibilities, geography, and economic principles in ways that promote critical thinking and inquiry-based learning.
- Utilize primary and secondary sources, project-based learning, and discussion strategies to deepen student understanding.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including English Language Learners (ELLs) and students with IEPs/504 plans.
- Establish and maintain an engaging classroom environment that fosters curiosity, discussion, and respect for diverse perspectives.
- Implement positive behavior management strategies (PBIS) to create a structured and supportive learning environment.
Assessment & Student Support:
- Use formative and summative assessments to measure student understanding and adjust instruction accordingly.
- Provide meaningful feedback on student work, including essays, presentations, and projects.
- Identify students needing additional academic support and collaborate with special education staff, interventionists, and counselors to address individual needs.
- Prepare students for state and district assessments through targeted instruction and test-taking strategies.
Collaboration & Professional Responsibilities:
- Work collaboratively with grade-level teams, instructional coaches, and administrators to ensure curriculum alignment and student success.
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress, classroom activities, and behavior.
- Participate in professional learning communities (PLCs), faculty meetings, and professional development opportunities.
- Maintain accurate records of grades, attendance, and student progress in compliance with district policies.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with inquiry-based learning, debate, and student-led discussions.
- Familiarity with state standardized testing and assessment preparation.
- Proficiency in Google Classroom, interactive maps, and other educational technology.
- Ability to build strong relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
