Duties

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher to provide instruction and support for students with diverse learning needs in both inclusion (co-teaching) and self-contained classroom settings. The ideal candidate will collaborate with general education teachers, support staff, and families to create a positive and inclusive learning environment that fosters student growth and success.

Key Responsibilities:

Instruction & Classroom Management:

  • Plan, adapt, and deliver engaging lessons aligned with IEPs (Individualized Education Programs) and state curriculum standards.
  • Implement differentiated instruction to meet the diverse needs of students in inclusion and self-contained settings.
  • Utilize evidence-based teaching strategies to support students with learning disabilities, intellectual disabilities, autism, and other exceptionalities.
  • Modify assignments, assessments, and instructional materials to ensure accessibility and comprehension.
  • Establish and maintain an organized, structured, and positive classroom environment that promotes student independence and engagement.
  • Monitor student behavior and implement positive behavior interventions and supports (PBIS).

Collaboration & Communication:

  • Co-teach and collaborate with general education teachers to ensure successful student inclusion in the classroom.
  • Work closely with paraprofessionals, therapists, and other support staff to address student needs.
  • Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding student progress, accommodations, and IEP goals.
  • Participate in ARD (Admission, Review, and Dismissal) meetings, IEP meetings, and professional development sessions.

Assessment & Compliance:

  • Conduct formal and informal assessments to track student progress toward IEP goals.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of student data, progress reports, and behavioral interventions.
  • Ensure compliance with IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act), Section 504, and other state/federal regulations.

Qualifications

 

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Special Education.
  • Certification: Valid state teaching certification in Special Education (grades 6-8 or applicable level).
  • Strong understanding of IEP development, differentiated instruction, behavior management strategies, and assistive technology.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.
