Duties

Wheaton Warrenville Community Unit School District is looking for a Middle School Assistant Principal.  Under the supervision of the principal, the assistant principal is responsible for planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating all aspects of the District 200 middle school program.

Key Functions:
 A.   Curriculum and Instruction

  • Has experience and knowledge of curriculum practices for grades 6-8.
  • Participate in the development of a master schedule which implements course offerings.
  • Review student  learning data as a means for determining programming needs
  • Supports staff with the implementation of curriculum and technology integration.
  • Demonstrates commitment to student achievement, school improvement, and professional development.

 B.  Human Resources
Supervise and evaluate building personnel and make employment, tenure, and retention recommendations.

  • Observe and evaluate building personnel.
  • Facilitate the participation of interns and student teachers.
  • Assist in the hiring process for all school staff. 
  • Advises, assists, and trains employees as necessary. Participates in the selection of new employees and makes recommendations regarding the hiring, discipline, transfer and termination of employees.

C. Student Services
Supervise student support services in the areas of behavior, academics, health, and attendance.

  • Monitor MTSS process for identifying and providing student services for interventions, special needs, guidance support, social, psychological, and health services.
  • Monitor and record student attendance through compliance with local, state, and federal mandates.
  • Work with the behavior interventionist to administer student behavior management in compliance with school board policy and local, state, and federal laws.
  • Assist in ensuring a safe and secure school building. Plan, educate and conduct all safety drills 
  • Supervise and monitor student activities.

 D.   Business Operations
 Assist with the creation of building budget, facility use, cafeteria, transportation, and governmental reports.

  • Facilitate the delivery of student transportation services according to the district’s transportation contract and coordinate their delivery with the bus company.
  • Assist in the preparation of all district, state, and federal reports.
  • Assures the efficient, effective operation of the school implementing and interpreting policies, procedures, and regulations for effective day-to-day and long term operation

Qualifications

  • Hold an Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with an Administrative Endorsement
  • Have knowledge of the Illinois Learning Standards
  • Be an instructional leader
  • Possess excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Have knowledge and experience related to Professional Learning Communities
  • Have knowledge and experience related to MTSS process
  • Have knowledge and experience working with high needs special education & EL programs 
  • Demonstrate commitment to student achievement and school improvement
  • Celebrate diversity within the school community
  • Have an understanding of the needs of English Language Learners and students with disabilities
  • Support, know, utilize and apply 21st Century Learning and Teaching
  • Demonstrate an ongoing commitment to personal professional development
  • Builds a culture of high aspirations and achievement for every student
  • Proactively engages families and communities in supporting their child’s learning and the schools learning goals
