Duties

To provide strategic leadership and operational oversight to the district's Transportation, Food Service, Facilities, and Information Services departments. The Assistant Superintendent of Operations ensures the delivery of safe, efficient, and innovative services that support student learning, staff productivity, and district goals. This role collaborates with district leadership to align operations with the district’s strategic vision and optimize resources to meet the needs of the community, students, and staff.

Job Duties / Responsibilities

  • Provide visionary leadership to align operational departments with the district’s long-term strategic goals.
  • Serve as a key advisor to the Deputy Superintendent on operational matters, offering data-driven insights and innovative solutions.
  • Collaborate with district leadership to integrate operational priorities into broader district initiatives.
  • Provide guidance and support to the Executive Director of Facilities, Director of Transportation, Director of Food Service, and Director of Information Services.
  • Ensure all departments operate efficiently within budgetary constraints and comply with applicable laws, policies, and regulations.
  • Oversee professional development and training for department leaders to enhance performance and capacity.
  • Evaluate and improve operational processes to maximize efficiency, sustainability, and safety across all departments.
  • Foster cross-departmental collaboration to ensure seamless service delivery and operational alignment.
  • Develop and implement key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor and assess department effectiveness.
  • Work with department leaders to develop and monitor budgets, ensuring fiscal responsibility and alignment with district priorities.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and strategies to optimize the use of resources.
  • Manage capital improvement projects and ensure proper execution and reporting.
  • Communicate and collaborate with stakeholders, including staff, students, parents, community members, and external partners, to address operational needs and concerns.
  • Represent the district at local, state, and national meetings or conferences as assigned.
  • Ensure all operational departments comply with federal, state, and local regulations, including safety, environmental, and data security standards.
  • Oversee the implementation of risk management protocols and safety standards across all operational areas.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Deputy Superintendent of Operations.

Qualifications

Education

  • Master’s degree in Educational Leadership, Business Administration, Operations Management, or a related field preferred
  • Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with Chief School Business Official endorsement preferred 
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered if qualifications align with the responsibilities of the position.
  • The knowledge, skills and abilities listed above are typically acquired through the levels of education and experience listed.  However, any equivalent combination of education and/or experience, which provide an applicant with the listed knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position may be acceptable.

Experience / Knowledge

  • Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience in operations, facilities, transportation, food service, or information systems in a school district or similar environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead diverse operational teams and align department goals with organizational priorities.
  • Strong analytical skills, with experience in data-driven decision-making.
  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations governing school district operations.
  • Proven ability to manage large budgets and oversee capital improvement projects.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders effectively.
  • Commitment to sustainability and innovative solutions in operational practices.

Salary/Benefits

This is a 12-month work year position.  Salary and benefits as established by the Board of Education. The salary range for this position is $137,808.00 - $206,700.00. It is our typical practice to hire in between the minimum and midpoint ($172,254.00).
