Duties

The school counselor, funded through the School-Based Mental Health Grant, is committed to supporting students’ social-emotional needs and advocating for positive learning environments. The school counselor engages in services to build and maintain positive mindsets and behaviors, supporting our students’ ability to manage the everyday demands of their lives. Direct services provided by the school counselor include implementing the SEL curriculum, group counseling, and individual counseling. Indirect services include collaborating or consulting with staff, families, and local agencies. Candidates for this position will be working with students in fourth and fifth grade.  

Qualifications

  • Current and valid state of Illinois Professional Educator License with a school counselor endorsement;
  • An outstanding knowledge of child and adolescent development, social and environmental conditioning, cultural diversity, and family systems;
  • Ability to develop a counseling program that teaches students the knowledge, attitudes, and skills required to develop socially and emotionally;
  • Skilled listener, problem-solver, and relationship builder;
  • Outstanding interpersonal and teamwork skills required; and
  • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.

Salary/Benefits

  • Starting salary of $55,256; (Please click the link to view the current (salary schedule);  Funded through School-Based Mental Health Service Provider Grant.
  • Salary is commensurate with education and experience;
  • Qualified candidates may be granted up to twenty years of verified full-time school experience for credit on the salary schedule;

Additional Notes

Working Conditions:

  • 180 days per year - August through May/June
  • Work Hours: 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
