Duties

River Ridge Elementary School is seeking a skilled and dedicated K-2 Special Education Teacher to join our team. We are committed to providing a supportive and inclusive learning environment where all students, including those with learning disabilities, autism, developmental delays, and behavioral challenges, can thrive. As a special education teacher, you will play a pivotal role in creating individualized educational experiences and fostering success for each student.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Instructional Support: Deliver specialized instruction to students in grades K-2 with a variety of special needs, including learning disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, developmental delays, and behavioral challenges.
  • Individualized Education Plans (IEPs): Write, implement, and monitor IEPs for each student. Collaborate with parents, administrators, and other specialists to ensure that goals are appropriately set and progress is regularly assessed.
  • Behavioral and Social Support: Provide individualized and group support for students with behavioral challenges. Implement behavioral interventions and collaborate with other professionals to address social-emotional needs.
  • Collaborative Approach: Work closely with general education teachers, speech-language pathologist, school counselor, and other professionals to ensure comprehensive support for students.
  • Differentiated Instruction: Use a variety of teaching strategies, materials, and assessments to meet the diverse needs of students and create an inclusive learning environment.
  • Progress Monitoring: Regularly assess and document student progress, adjusting instructional methods as necessary to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Parent and Community Involvement: Communicate effectively with parents regarding student progress, challenges, and the implementation of the IEP. Attend meetings and collaborate with families to ensure holistic student success.

Qualifications

  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with Special Education endorsement.
  • Experience working with students in K-2 grade levels, particularly those with autism, learning disabilities, developmental delays, and behavioral challenges.
  • Strong knowledge of IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) and IEP development and implementation.
  • Ability to implement evidence-based instructional practices tailored to individual student needs.
