Duties

ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
** Employee must be qualified and properly endorsed to perform professional staff supervision and/or teacher evaluations. 
 
1. Assists the Principal and Assistant Principal with the overall administration of the middle school;
2. Performs as a resource for teachers and staff who express concerns for student attendance, student development and/or discipline;
3. Maintains active relationships with parents, families and students;
4. Coordinates efforts with guidance, police liaison officer(s), school psychologist, and/or social worker in meeting with students and parents to discuss improving student attendance and/or behavior;
5. Consults with families concerning student attendance and behavior;
6. Responds to written and oral communication regarding student development and discipline matters;
7. Confers with students and when necessary, makes appropriate referrals for IEPs, guidance consultation, and/or psychological testing;
8. Resolves student behavior concerns in a fair and timely manner and maintains records of disciplinary or referral actions taken;
9. Assists in the interpretation of school district programs relating to student substance abuse and truancy;
10. Makes recommendations for appropriate revisions of policies and rules effecting student behavior;
11. Assists in discussing strategies to improve student performance, attendance and development;
12. Assists in developing and administering practices dealing with transportation, campus control, and security;
assists with campus supervision.
13. Administers the extracurricular program of the school and responds to requests for specific new extracurricular clubs, activities and programs.
14. Has general supervisory responsibility for student activities, athletic events, programs for student orientation and similar student-related activities.
15. Assists in establishing and administering rules governing students sent for in-school suspension;
16. Serves as a member of such committees and attends such meetings as directed by the principal;
17. Assists acting principal when all administrators are out of the building;
18. May assist with teacher evaluations on a limited basis.
19. Performs other tasks and assumes responsibilities within the overall scope of the position which the Principal may assign.

Qualifications

Valid Professional Educator License; Administrative endorsement preferred.
Completion of ISBE teacher evaluation modules or Administrative Academies preferred.
Experience working with middle school students;
Excellent writing and speaking skills, and ability to effectively communicate with students, teachers and families of students.
Track record of positive student relationships and student advocacy.
