Duties

This Library/Media Specialist will also teach multiple sections of Elementary Art.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Adheres to the Board of Education policies and procedures.
  • Strives to implement by the performance of job responsibilities the district's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
  • Reports suspected child abuse/neglect cases as required by statute and district policy.
  • Works cooperatively with other school personnel in the identification, diagnosis, referral and remediation of individual students with specialized needs.
  • Attends staff meetings and in-service meetings as reasonably required.
  • Attends PTA meetings as reasonably designated by the building principal.
  • Meets, as required and within reason, with students, parents, and/or consultants.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, or building procedures.
  • Promotes appropriate conduct of students using library facilities.
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Organizes and supervises library for maximum sage by students and staff.
  • Maintains a comprehensive and efficient system for cataloging all library materials, and instructs teachers and students on use of the system.
  • Develops a positive climate that encourages students and teachers to make optimum use of the resources in the library/media center.
  • Provides library orientation and skill instruction program for students.
  • Arranges for frequent changes of displays, exhibits, and similar motivational devices likely to interest the library's patrons. 
  • Selects materials, with the assistance of the teachers, based on the curriculum, teaching strategies, learning activities, test results and students' interests.
  • Promotes school-wide utilization of library media facilities, resources and services.
  • Informs users of library/media center materials.
  • Provides staff development opportunities for teachers about the availability and utilization of local and district learning resources.
  • Works with teachers in planning those assignments likely to lead to extended use of library resources.
  • At the invitation of the teacher, presents and discusses materials with a class studying a particular topic.
  • Plans designs and produces instructional materials for use by students and staff.
  • Works cooperatively with classroom teachers to help students to develop habits of independent reference work and to develop skills in the use of materials in relation to planned assignments. 
  • Counsels with and gives reading guidance to students who have special reading problems or unique intellectual interests.
  • Arranges for the repair and care of library books and materials.
  • Prepares and administers the library budget.
  • Supervises media aids and student helpers.
  • Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Meets accepted standards of The Professional Code of Ethics.
  • Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct; and, for the classroom develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedures, and is responsible for the maintenance of student discipline the classroom in accordance with school board policy.
  • Participates on building, district or Moline Education Association committees.
  • Performs other reasonable duties as may be assigned by the principal or designee that employee is qualified to perform.

Qualifications

Must hold an Illinois Professional Educator License with a Library/Media Endorsement or Provisional. This person shall also have the required coursework to teach multiple sections of Elementary Art.

 

Salary/Benefits

Placed as appropriate on the Teachers' Salary Schedule. (base - $47,145.)
