Duties
Responsibilities: The ESL/Bilingual teacher is responsible for but not limited to:
- Administer achievement tests and evaluates test results
- Provide assistance to classroom teachers on bilingual techniques, methods and materials
- Collaborates with school staff for the purpose of planning and developing appropriate instruction
- Facilitating and attending meetings related to the academic success of students
- Demonstrate effective communication skills
- Completing appropriate reports
- Plans, organizes and provides instruction in English and in native language of students in the State Standards for Illinois and English Language Proficiency Standards
- Administers academic and language assessments for the purpose of screening and evaluating student’s progress in meeting academic learning targets and progress in language acquisition
- Maintains complete and accurate records of student’s progress and evidence of growth and progress
- Understands and complies with the policies, rules and regulations regarding the education of bilingual education students
- Advocates for the program needs that are required to meet the learning needs of bilingual students
- Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated
13.Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students
- Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate superior
- Encourages students to set and maintain appropriate standards of classroom behavior
- Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved
- Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities
- Is available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day
- Facilitates frequent and effective home-school communication by coordinating: conferences, written communication, parent trainings, and other meetings/events
- Strives to maintain and improve professional competence
- Attends staff meetings and serves on building/district committees
- Analyze student performance, program effectiveness and make appropriate recommendations.
- Assumes responsibility for other duties as assigned.

Expectations are that paraprofessionals are clear verbal and written communicators, have well-developed interpersonal skills, practice reflective teaching, and seek continuous self-improvement.
Qualifications
Qualifications: Current and valid license or appropriate endorsement.

Additional Notes
The primary duty of the the ESL/Bilingual teacher is to provide basic academic instruction in subjects to identified students requiring specialized instruction, using research based programs to improve academic levels.
