Duties
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Explicitly model through communication and actions the core values and beliefs in the District’s goals and mission.
- Align work with the D300 Strategic Plan.
- Develop department goals, tasks, and action items that are tied to the District Strategic Plan; execute action steps to actualize the strategic plan goals.
- Provide curriculum leadership for alignment to national, state and District learning standards (where available), for sequencing a developmentally appropriate, rigorous flow of content in the division, and for ensuring that all department members understand and adhere to the approved curriculum frameworks;
- Maintain a current and detailed understanding of all state laws and curriculum requirements, and ensure that the D300 programs in this division are in alignment with all applicable laws, regulations, and requirements;
- Use the District’s online curriculum management system to maintain and update curriculum documents and instructional unit plans in alignment with PLC practices;
- Ensure curriculum and instructional articulation between grade levels;
- Collect and use data to guide instruction and programming within the division;
- Monitor fidelity of implementation of all District supported programs within the division;
- In consultation with the Director of Professional Development, prepare a professional development plan for the division and provide accountability and supervision during professional development times;
- In consultation with the Assessment department, prepare and implement an assessment plan for the division to include formative assessments, summative assessments, and district common assessments where applicable;
- In collaboration with the Assessment department, provide district-level and school-level direction for implementation of standardized assessments such as i-Ready, IAR, SAT, and others;
- Oversee division area use of the district assessment platform, including support for exam item entry, attaching standards, and data usage;
- Under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction, coordinate instructional materials adoptions and ensure adoption cycle is implemented;
- Oversee physical/digital textbooks and physical/digital instructional materials in division areas;
- Disseminate division information and ensure consistent communication between buildings and grade levels;
- Work with, and provide leadership and support to department representatives and division heads;
- Collaborate and provide support as needed with Interventionists
- Collaborate with Assistant Superintendents, other Directors and Coordinators (Data, Assessment and Accountability; Academic MTSS; Professional Development; Early Childhood; Literacy; Science; Social Studies, College and Career Readiness; PE/Health/Driver Education; Fine and Performing Arts, etc.);
- Oversee academic extracurricular activities (D300 Math Contests, math field trips, etc.);
- Annually update curriculum information resources including the parent-friendly curriculum guide, department flowcharts, etc.;
- Assist principals (as needed) to recruit and hire new teachers in their divisions;
- Support implementation of Professional Learning Communities in the district and at school sites;
- Model and integrate modern instructional strategies including blended, competency-based, and other models for learning;
- Design and deliver professional development in the division for all job groups including administrators, teachers, paraeducators, and support staff.
- Provide leadership for enrichment and intervention programs in the division area.
- Be the primary communicator for division programs, initiatives, and departmental topics.
- Provide guidance to principals (as needed) on best practices in teacher evaluation utilizing the Danielson Framework for the teaching area(s) that fall under this role;
- Actively participate in District job-alike committees, in the District instructional leadership team meetings, in other meetings and committees as directed, and in one's own professional development for this role;
- Assesses and responds to the needs and concerns of district leadership by collaborating with the Director of Early Childhood and Elementary Math to align the work of the math department with the district's strategic goals.
- Attend or chair various meetings outside of the District; represent the District in collaborative partnerships, task forces, committees, businesses, and human service agencies.
- Develop and oversee the District budget for this division and research grant opportunities;
- Develop and oversee the District Individual Problem-Solving process related to the division;
- Attain personal proficiency in District-supported technology platforms, applications, and tools, including but not limited to the Learning Management System, ChromeOS, Student Information System, Lawson, Google Drive, assessment platform, etc.;
- Serves as a member of the Academic Team and Superintendent Cabinet;
- Attends School Board meetings as requested;
- Participate in evening and weekend events; and
- Other duties as assigned.
