Duties


PURPOSE:


The job of the Principal is for the purpose of providing support to the instructional process with specific responsibility for direction overall site operations, services, and staff; providing information and serving as a resource to others; enforcing established policies and regulatory requirements; coordinating school activities and addressing issues, situations and/or problems that arise in the building or with enrolled students.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Develop and articulate a clear, collaborative vision for the school that aligns with district goals, fostering a shared commitment among staff, students, and the community to achieve continuous improvement.
  • Facilitate and chair meets (e.g. curriculum, safety, professional development, etc.) for the purpose of coordinating activities and ensuring that outcomes and student growth meet school and district goals.
  • Delegates responsibility for a variety of administrative functions to Assistant Principal and other personnel for the purpose of managing the workload more efficiently.
  • Develops budgets and financial forecasts for the purpose of providing financial guidance and recommendations to administrative personnel, Superintendent and/or Governing Board.
  • Evaluates assigned personnel for the purpose of ensuring professional standards are being met.
  • Facilitates communication between personnel, students, parents, districts and/or community for the purpose of providing information, problem solving, and/or resolving conflicts.
  • Implements policies, procedures and/or processes for the purpose of providing direction and/or complying with mandated requirements.
  • Manage school administrative functions (e.g. facility maintenance, budget, staffing, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining safe and efficient school operations within district guidelines.
  • Collaborate with colleagues by actively participating in administrative team meetings and committee meetings as assigned by the Superintendent, fostering shared decision-making and collective growth.
  • Presents information to staff, parents, students, Board and member districts for the purpose of highlighting school and student accomplishments, explaining school goals and program, and communication.
  • Provide leadership in data analysis and problem solving in the development, implementation and modification of goals, objectives, curriculum and assessment for the purpose of monitoring student growth.
  • Represents the school within the community and member districts for the purpose of maintaining support for the program objectives and to obtain feedback for additional needs.
  • Review and analyze data for school-wide assessments for the purpose of determining student growth and setting school goals.
  • Researches alternate funding sources for the purpose of providing additional support for the program and maintaining the efficient operation of the school.
  • Supervises professional personnel for the purpose of monitoring performance, providing for professional growth and achieving overall objectives of the school’s mission.

 

OTHER FUNCTIONS:

  • Assume administrative and developmental responsibilities under the supervision of the NSSEO Superintendent for the planning, operative and evaluation of the programs coordinated.
  • Assume other duties and special projects as assigned.
  • Support NSSEO policy, NSSEO and governing board goals and objectives, and The School Code of Illinois.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid Professional Educator License endorsed for Administration (Principal or General Administrator).
  • Professional Educator License endorsed in Special Education (PK-12) or School Support Personnel (School Social Worker or School Psychologist).
  • Educational leadership ability in overall program planning and implementation.
  • Two years of teaching experience in one area of exceptionality served by the school, preferred.
  • Strong background in special education, curriculum and instruction and professional development.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with students, staff & parents.
  • Ability to participate in Nonviolent Crisis Prevention (NVCI) training and assist with crisis situations that may result in physical interventions.
