Share: Print: Duties Assumes the duties of the Principal in the absence of the Principal. Assists in the supervision, direction, and evaluation of the middle school staff, as directed by the Principal. Assists the Principal in the performance of his/her duties as the Principal may direct. Distributes, collects, and maintains an inventory of textbooks. Assigns lockers and distributes locks to homeroom teachers. Distributes for teacher use and maintains an inventory of audio-visual equipment. Supervises the attendance and discipline of students. Aids teachers in the scheduling of field trips. Supervises the noon-hour and bus supervisors. Secures substitute teachers and secretaries as necessary. Assists the Principal in adjusting student elections and scheduling of classes. Assists in the supervision of students throughout the building and grounds. Assists students with their academic, personal, and social problems. Serves as a resource person in counseling with other staff members regarding student problems. Attends and chaperones school activities, as directed by the Principal. Supervises extra-curricular activities as directed by the Principal. Takes steps to promptly eliminate, repair or correct defects or deterioration of, removes obstructions from, and cleans the school building and grounds. Trains personnel to be safety conscious Develops reasonable regulations for pupil traffic in corridors, on stairways and elsewhere on school premises. Provides adequate supervision for field trips and other educational activities away from the school. Provides adequate supervision to play areas and other areas in the school and on school grounds where pupils congregate during school hours. Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS: Master's Degree with training in administration and/or supervision preferably at the middle school level. Illinois State Administrative Certificate with general administrative endorsement. Five years of successful teaching, administrative or supervisory experience. Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: Ability to exert strong leadership in the administration of a middle school and in the handling of a wide variety of student problems. Knowledge of sound middle school educational programs. Thorough knowledge of adolescent counseling, guidance, and psychology, and the ability to translate same into sound practice. Ability to make firm decisions in the areas of responsibility and to delegate responsibilities to members of the middle school staff. Ability to develop and implement short- and long-range educational plans and programs at the middle school level. Ability to function effectively as a member of the middle school administrative team. Ability to communicate effectively. Experience: Five years or more of successful teaching, support, administrative or supervisory experience at the middle school level is preferred. Three years of successful experience in a certified position is required.
