Duties
Job Description: The building Principal is the chief administrator of that school. The primary responsibility of the Principal is the development and improvement of instruction. A majority of the Principal’s time shall be spent on curriculum and staff development through formal and informal activities, establishing clear lines of communication regarding school goals, accomplishments, practices, and policies with parents and teachers. The Principal is responsible for management of the staff, security and maintenance of the facility and equipment, administration of the budget, communication between the school and the community, and ensuring all follow BHASED board policies, as well as state and federal regulations.

Essential Job Functions:
- Promotes the mission of BHAEC and BHASED
- Serves as the instructional leader
- Manages the daily operations
- Maintains and promotes a positive working environment
- Supervises and evaluates the BHAEC Assistant Principal
- Collaborates with BHASED Coordinators on program details, professional development, etc.
- Meets with Cabinet monthly
- Meets with Director and Building Administration
- Works cooperatively with staff of other agencies providing coordination of services and to implement programs, policies, and procedures
- Supervises the BHAEC staff, properly coordinating and implementing all program components
- Participates in the recruitment and selection of staff and evaluates all staff (assigns the Assistant Principal to evaluate staff as well)
- Be the local community liaison for daily programmatic affairs dealing with the BHAEC
- Be responsible for refining the performance and program expectations of the BHAEC
- Be responsible for implementation of rules, regulations, policies and standards as defined by federal, state, and local agencies
- Prepares, with the Assistant Principal, the master schedule; ensures and monitors all staff in developing and administering classroom/service delivery schedules for all students
- Sees that all IEPs for the BHAEC placements are properly written and implemented
- Monitors high school graduation requirements of all member high schools and coordinates with appropriate district personnel to ensure students work toward diploma requirements
- Works with districts, BHASED coordinators, and other representatives on the BHAEC referrals, including the process for referrals and moving out of BHAEC
- Works with the Director to identify community organizations and partnership to assist in the mission and vision of BHASED and BHAEC
- Plans and implements in-service trainings and educational programs for the staff at the BHAEC
- Participates in conferences and conventions with Professional Development allotment
- Is responsible for budgeted programmatic expenditures pertaining to the BHAEC
- Keeps informed of the current professional trends and development through the reading of literature, attendance at professional meetings, and workshops
- Evaluates program/facility and plans for the long-range future of the BHAEC
- Reports directly to the Director/designee of BHASED and meets regularly with them to plan and modify the BHAEC program
- Oversees and supervises janitorial, maintenance, and food service. Provides supervision and oversight of building and grounds issues, working with specific district personnel
- Participates in meetings with BHASED - IEA (Union) Leadership
- Carries out other duties as may be assigned by the Director
