Duties
Assist with the safe and efficient transportation services to students with special education needs. Assist driver in loading and unloading passengers. Ensure proper securement of wheelchairs, safety vests, seat belts and all other safety restraint systems. Responsible for the supervision of students assigned to route including passenger behavior management. Assist passengers who become ill on the vehicle. Must be physically capable to load and unload passengers. Should know how to communicate by two-way radio should the driver not be able to. Demonstrate a commitment to know about your students, what their needs are, and assist locating and implementing important information such as:
- The IEP (Transportation Plan)
- Instructions for lift
- Emergency information, including evacation plan, special medical information and any DNR orders
- Seating chart
- Emergency equipment (fire extinguishers, first aid kit)
Required to exercise universal precautions. Maintain a high level of professionalism. Maintain a high level of confidentiality. Communication among all team members is essential.
Qualifications
At least 18 years of age or older. Must be able to lift 50 lbs to assist with bus evacuation. After the pre-employment interview, a new applicant must (1) pass a physical examination, including a tuberculosis test and drug testing. (2) be fingerprinted, as prescribed by the Secretary of State, and clear an Illinois specific background check, with prints forwarded to the FBI for a national background check. (3) minimum of two (positive) recommendations from professional references.
Salary/Benefits
Morning and afternoon hours for hourly pay.
Salary Range: $15.00 - 22.00 per hour
