Reports to: Deputy Superintendent
The Director of Secondary Education is a 10-month position.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Director of Secondary Education shall be responsible to the Deputy Superintendent. This individual shall have the responsibility to assist with all aspects of curriculum, instruction, and assessment for the education program. All qualifications are considered essential to fulfill the requirements of the position of Director of Secondary Education.
The following positions shall report to the Director of Secondary Education:
- Technology Integration Specialist
- K-12 Art, Music, P.E., and Library Subject Chairs
- Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment Office Administrative Assistants
Specific duties and responsibilities are as follows:
- Assist in the development, implementation, coordination, evaluation and assessment of the secondary educational programs.
- Assist in the development and periodic review of secondary curriculum, establishing the means to provide a comprehensive integrated curriculum.
- Assist in the development, implementation and evaluation of a program designed to meet the ongoing professional growth needs of the certificated staff.
- Co-ordinates the development, implementation and evaluation of a program designed to meet the ongoing professional growth needs of the certificated staff, including oversight of a two-year mentoring and induction program for beginning teachers.
- Assist in the provision of data and the preparation of district and secondary school improvement plans. Assist in the secondary testing and assessment programs.
- Assist in the supervision and evaluation of principals.
- Supervision and evaluation of Technology Integration Specialist.
- Assist in the planning, implementation and evaluation of various meetings.
- Assist in the program oversight of regular education and coordinate applications, implementations and evaluations of state programs and/or grants in the District's regular education program.
- Assist in the development, implementation and evaluation of a program of reporting to parents on the educational progress of children.
- Assist in the selection and purchase of secondary instructional materials, equipment and textbooks.
- Assist in the selection, assignment, transfer, promotion and dismissal of instructional and administrative staff.
- Assist with academic intervention (MTSS) programming and associated professional development.
- Coordinate gifted/enrichment programming and associated professional development.
- Coordinate alternative education programs.
- Coordinate educational programs and student teacher placements for colleges and universities.
- Coordinate summer school programming, staffing, and associated professional development.
- Assists with the district Faculty Curriculum and Assessment Committee.
- Oversight and approval of field trips. Monitoring and review of field trip protocols and procedures.
- Assist with textbook and resource subscription renewals or reorders.
- Assist with data collection.
- Coordinate the Continuous Improvement Team efforts. Conduct professional development on Continuous Improvement with the team.
- Schedule and conduct building visits with principals to observe instruction and support the continuous improvement and efforts of principals.
- Attendance and participation in administrative meetings (principal, extended cabinet, etc.)
- Attend Board of Education meetings and other meetings as appropriate.
- Prepare reports for the Board of Education in areas related to job responsibilities.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Deputy Superintendent, which the employee is qualified to do.
All qualifications are considered essential to fulfill the requirements for the position of the Director of Secondary Education.
Qualifications
The Director of Secondary Education shall hold a valid Illinois Professional Educator License with an Administrative Endorsement. The preferred candidate will have some level of building experience. This individual also shall possess the personal characteristics necessary to work collaboratively with District staff.
