Duties

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement engaging, standards-aligned lesson plans based on the Illinois Learning Standards for ELA.
  • Teach reading, writing, speaking, and critical thinking skills to junior high students.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies to meet diverse student needs, including differentiated instruction and project-based learning.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation, creativity, and academic growth.
  • Assess student learning through formative and summative assessments, providing timely feedback and adjusting instruction as needed.
  • Integrate technology and multimedia resources to enhance literacy instruction.
  • Encourage a love of reading through engaging literature selections and independent reading opportunities.
  • Support students in developing strong writing skills across multiple genres, including narrative, informational, and argumentative writing.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, parents, and support staff to enhance student learning and address individual needs.
  • Maintain accurate student records and communicate progress effectively with students, families, and school administration.
  • Support school-wide initiatives, including literacy programs, student interventions, and extracurricular activities.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, or a related field.
  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with an endorsement in English Language Arts (or the ability to obtain certification).
  • Strong classroom management skills and the ability to connect with junior high students.
  • Experience or willingness to implement engaging, research-based instructional strategies.
  • Ability to incorporate reading interventions, writing workshops, and technology integration into instruction.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.

Salary/Benefits

Salary range $38,200 - $64,470 depending on position on the salary schedule.  Board paid TRS, health insurance 14  sick days and 3 personal days a year.  Health, dental, & vision insurance.
