Duties

Job Title: Director of Special Education (Director of Special Education endorsement and 5 years administrative experience preferred)

Full Time: 12 months

Job Focus:
To provide leadership, coordination, and administrative support to the district’s diversified special education programs, early childhood and preschool program, gifted education programs and pupil personnel services in accordance with Every Student Succeeds Act, (ESSA), federal, state and district requirements, regulations and policies.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Analyze, coordinates and determines needs of special education programs and pupil personnel services in compliance with ESSA legislation, federal, state and district requirements.
Provide administrative direction to the preparation and submission of state reports for program pre-approval, reimbursements and funds.
Complete and submit the Special Education Grant.
Complete and submit quarterly expenditure reports.                                                                                                      Oversee and manage Medicaid, Random Moments of Time Study, and Timely Meaningful Consultation meetings.            Participate in, represents and attends district Representative meetings throughout the Cooperative.
Facilitate and train staff as it relates to current trends in special education and provide staff development training throughout the school year.
Evaluate staff within the department.
Attends and facilitates Eligibility conferences, transition meetings and IEP meetings for students identified under (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
Serves as liaison between building principals and case managers to evaluate the effectiveness of student services.
Participates in special assignments and projects as requested by the superintendent.
Recruit staff for the department.
All other duties assigned by the superintendent related to the department.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Has a valid PEL from the Illinois State Board of Education with an endorsement as a Director of Special Education
Has a minimum of 5 years’ administrative experience (preferred).
PERA Certified
Additional qualifications as the Board of Education may deem appropriate.

Salary/Benefits

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

245 days per year. Salary and other benefits as established by the Board of Education.
