Duties

Reporting to a Supervisor, is responsible for responding to general special education questions received by the department, reviewing and approving deviation requests, processing applications for State Directors, and assisting with reviews and edits of documents.

  • Serves as the primary responder to general special education questions received by the department.
  • Provides responses to inquiries based on federal and state special education rules and regulations.
  • Refers inquirer to agency resources as applicable.
  • Collaborates with others in the Agency to ensure accuracy of responses.
  • Reviews and approves deviation requests.
  • Prepares, reviews and edits department guidance documents, presentations, reports, applications, and forms for accuracy in grammar, style, and formatting.
  • Reviews federal and state statutes and regulations and other documentation in preparing written documents.
  • Assists with developing requests for proposals, requests for sealed proposals, and other grant and contractual documents.
  • Prepares, reviews, and edits correspondence by management and submits correspondence upon request.
  • Reviews and approves applications for state-approved Directors of Special Education.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Special Education or school service personnel area (School Psychology, School Social Work, Speech Language Pathology), or, a Bachelor's degree in Special Education. (COPY OF TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED AT TIME OF APPLICATION)
  • Professional Educator License endorsed in Special Education, School Service area, or Director of Special Education.
  • Two years of experience in special education at the local, state, or university level if a Master's degree. Five years of relevant professional experience required if a Bachelor's degree.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state special education rules and regulations.
