Duties

1. Drives school bus for the purpose of transporting authorized, regular education and/or
special education students over scheduled routes and to/from school and/or field trips in a
safe, timely and efficient manner.
2. Performs pre-trip and post-trip inspections to vehicles, both interior and exterior, for the
purpose of ensuring safety, appearance, and sanitation of vehicle
3. Fuels vehicle(s) for the purpose of maintaining it in a safe operating condition.
4. Notifies mechanics of mechanical defects of school vehicles.
5. Reports all accidents and police traffic stops immediately to the Director of Support
Personnel Services and completes assigned reports, as required.
6. Assesses incidents, complaints, accidents and/or potential emergency situations for the
purpose of resolving or recommending a resolution to the situation.
7. Assists students and other passengers for the purpose of providing safe loading and
unloading from buses including both emergency situations (including bus evacuations) and
normal transport.
8. Attends meetings, trainings, etc. as assigned for the purpose of maintaining skills and
meeting requirements of Illinois School Bus Driver Permit.

9. Communicates with parents, students, teachers, administrators, etc. for the purpose of
conveying/receiving relevant information.
10. Performs first aid as necessary for the purpose of meeting the immediate health care needs
of passengers.
11. Obeys all traffic laws.
12. Observes all mandatory safety regulations for school buses.
13. Keeps assigned bus clean.
14. Aptly adheres to assigned route/schedule.
15. Notifies the proper authority in case of mechanical failure or tardiness.
16. Discharges students only at authorized stops.
17. Enforces regulations against smoking and eating on the bus.
18. Monitors passengers during transit for the purpose of maintaining safety and discipline and
reporting discipline problems to the proper authority using district policies and procedures.
19. Assumes responsibility for other duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications

1. Valid Illinois Commercial Driver's License or verification from Secretary of State stating
eligibility
2. Valid Illinois School Bus Permit or verification from Secretary of State stating eligibility
3. Pass a Regional Office of Education Fingerprint/Background Clearance including Federal
Bureau of Investigation
4. Must be able to communicate verbally and through email in English
5. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and
acceptable.

Salary/Benefits

10 month work year. Salary and work year to be established by the Board.
