Duties
JOB SUMMARY:
- To promote a safe and secure learning and working environment for all students, staff, faculty, and visitors.
- Provide information and assistance to the public, staff, and students at Ball-Chatham School District #5.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Listed below but not limited to:
- Provide assistance, information, and direction to staff, students, and visitors on the campus
- Lock and unlock building classrooms, lockers, and offices as needed
- Assist local emergency service agencies and personnel (fire, medical, police, ESDA, etc.) as needed
- Provide written reports of incidents that occur on campus
- In coordination with Director of Safety and Security, take necessary action to maintain order on campus pursuant to Ball-Chatham School District #5 policies and state law
- Talk informally with students in the hallway and during lunch – develop rapport and trust, check student passes, and monitor lunch periods
- Attend as many student activities as possible, security for athletic events and various dances; supplement administration
- Advise the administration on security matters and addressing security concerns; changing security protocols; making the proposal/recommendation/implementation
- Act as a liaison between law enforcement agencies and the administration
- Review camera footage as part of internal investigations to include: disciplinary items, contact tracing, etc.
- Maintain high visibility at all times
- Supervise security monitors, etc. - ADDRESS - Guidance or oversight or something
- Participates in the Red Flag Team and reports appropriate information to the SAFE coordinator and other team members
- Carry firearm
- Responsible for safety and security for the building in support of Administration
Qualifications
Required:
- Law Enforcement Officer (retired or inactive) who possesses legal authority to carry a firearm, as permitted by district administration, state and federal law, and qualification/indemnification criteria established by local and state law enforcement agencies
- High School Graduate or GED Equivalent.
- Ability to pass a fingerprint criminal background check.
Preferred:
- Prior Security experience in a school setting

- Maintain working knowledge of school legal issues
- Ability to stay calm and react appropriately in unusual or emergency situations
- Ability to think clearly and take effective action quickly in an emergency
- Ability to diffuse situations calmly and with authority
- Ability to exercise strict confidentiality of building and student issues
- Ability to learn rapidly and apply school regulation
- Ability to deal tactfully and diplomatically with students and general public
Salary/Benefits
Starting Pay Rate: $25.00 per hour, commensurate with experience
