Duties

• Assist Regional Office of Education private and public districts in the areas of mathematics, literacy, professional development and school improvement.
• Research and provide content knowledge and resources to staff about learning and teaching                
•  Teaching strategies/instructional practice
• Assessment design       
• Interpretation of assessment results/data analysis
• Research and provide information and guidance regarding a range of effective and innovative instructional strategies including: 
• individual discussions (informal and formal);
•  coaching sessions;
•  demonstration lessons with pre-and post-discussion/analysis;
• study groups;
• staff meetings; and       
• professional development programs
• Maintain paperwork consistently, appropriately and in a timely manner.
• Coordinate/facilitate instructional material pilots
• Maintain the confidentiality of schools, teachers, and classrooms.
• Obtain prior approval from the Regional Assistant Superintendent before distributing written communication and other media.
• Attend statewide meetings and other committees as assigned
• Demonstrate willingness to assume leadership positions.
• Demonstrate knowledge of researched-based instructional strategies that engage all students.
• Provide organized, individual and/or group learning opportunities for teachers as needed.
• Demonstrate knowledge using a variety of assessment tools.
• Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of state learning standards, curriculum, and subject matter.
• Provide support in designing formative assessments.
• Provide support in analyzing student assessment data.
• Assist teachers with designing instructional decisions based on assessment data.
• Assist teachers with specific classroom activities when requested.
• Provide support for classroom motivation and management strategies.
• Assist teachers in creating materials that are in alignment with curriculum.
• Monitor by observing and meeting with teachers.
• Instruct and support teachers with curriculum software products, and classroom/curriculum
• related technologies.
• Provide assistance in researching instructional and/or curriculum issues.
• Model lessons when appropriate.
• Provide encouragement and emotional support to teachers.
• Attend workshops/conferences to learn about new innovative instructional strategies.
• Understand that job responsibilities may vary related to each building’s needs.
• Perform duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent of Schools.
  • Communicates effectively, both verbally and in writing, in a timely manner to affected stakeholders.
  • Recognizes the different needs of urban and rural schools and demonstrates ability to work adeptly in each setting.
  • Has experience with School Improvement planning and implementation.
  • Is self-disciplined, motivated, and can work independently.
  • Manages time well; is punctual; and respectful of other people’s time.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university; Master's preferred.
• Current Illinois State Teaching License.
• Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience.
• Knowledge of content standards.
• Experience in researched-based instructional practices.
• Desire to continue career improvement.

Salary/Benefits

Salary/Benefits will be regionally competitive depending on education and experience.

Additional Notes

• 120 Day per year position
• Requires a TRS calendar to be kept for job days and times. Evening hours expected.

  • Requires prolonged sitting or standing.
  • Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects
  • or materials.
  • Occasional stooping, bending, and reaching.
  • Must work indoors and outdoors year-round.
  • Must work in noisy and crowded environments.
• Have a valid driver's license.
• Be able to pass a background and drug screening
